Did we Over Pay for what we paid for?

Recommended Posts

Im reading all over the sports media we paid WAY TOO MUCH $$$ this free-agency ....      especially - to keep Lindstrom (now highest paid OG in NFL History), This mediocre TE Jonnu-Smith (do we really need another blocking TE?),  and these guys we got from the Saints, Jessie Bates worth it ... but I wonder .. if the Cost To Operate in the NFL just naturally GOES UP every year. Did we over pay?

The Jonnu-Smith acquisition ONLY MAKES SENSE if we are moving Kyle Pitts to a WR2 role, which i speculated before. But why pay so much money for a blocking TE?

It felt like a poor person who finally has some money that goes and splurges on everything ... but Im OK with that if the splurging pays off. Will these Free Agents pay off? Thats the gamble.

Its easy to spend a lot of money when you have a lot of money.

Its not easy to spend a little money when you have a lot.

Being Terry Fontenot is not easy. I pray his spending pays back.

We run two tight end sets.  End of story.  For two tight end sets you need two good tight ends.

We'll know in 6 months. But a good blocking TE, as in really good, means  probably a certain top 2 catching TE can be the offensive weapon he was made to be. I’m of course speaking about the TE who factually has a higher yards per touch than Kelce. Free that guy to catch and score and we will no longer need to worry about the score.

  • Not to worry about the TEs. They will be very valuable in that run game.
  • Overpaying a little for these valuable players is no sin with the Falcons' pre-FA roster.
  • Had to have the spell checker QB. (Aced that one too.).

We are looking at a 10-12 win season. The draft and a coupla' more FAs will seal it.

Did I do that right?

You can't make every signing a bargain value signing. At some point you have to pay whatever it's going to take to get a player you feel will really solve a problem.

Plus I don't accept some of the premises that might be being used in a claim we paid way too much. For example... I don't think that our new TE is only a blocking guy that only makes sense under a singular circumstance.

Haters in the media gonna hate. If we had only made "value" picks then these same people would be complaining that we refused to step up.

If you look back to Arthur Smiths last season as the OC with the Titans, you will find he had two tight ends with similar production. Jonnu being one of them. Jonnu will be our TE2 and will get a lot of snaps with the 1s when Pitts is in the slot and out wide, which will be about 60 % of the time.

When you sign outside free agents you always over spend a bit. But in regards to Jonnu this is what I think the plan is. The team loves to be in 12 personnel. Just think of a hurry up option where you are in 12 but Pitts splits out now you basically have a 3 WR look against a mismatched defense. If the team goes with extra Dbs you out Pitts inline and we run down the teams throats.

Pitts makes this team very veritable when used right. And with a good TE2 and a QB AS will trust to throw this coul he a great ofense

I'm off the mindset that when you're not very good, you have to pay a little extra for people to play for you. I'm ok with all of the contracts. Not a single one made me scratch my head and say why

I keep hearing this and curious of his blocking? Is he decent and could he be a blocking TE?

I see a guy with the ball in his hands who runs like CP.

He's a all around tight end who Arthur used all over the place when he coached him and got him paid on that second contract. He's solid across the board. Perfect TE2.

Last year at this time, the same tweekers who are saying we overpaid were saying the same thing about Jacksonville. Their lack of financial restraint resulted in a 9-8 record after going 3-14 the season prior. Oh, and a playoff berth. And a win in the playoffs.

I wonder if Jacksonville believes it got value for emptying their EBT card on the first day of the month?
