Taylor Hienecki signing a giant reality check

Recommended Posts

I'll say this. I don't think Lamar was a realistic option due to the fact that we really needed to build the team more, and couldn't afford to give up both picks and a huge contract to get him here.

That said, I also don't think Ridder's guaranteed the job. Hienicke will likely go into 2023 as one of the highest paid backup QB's, with performance incentives to escalate his contract up to 20 million in value, including playoffs.

So it's Ridder's job to lose at this point, but the leash might not be a full season long leash. With it being a 2 year deal, i'd speculate that if Ridder doesn't secure the job, then we're definitely going for a QB in 2024.

He so excited to be “the guy” to tell others not to want a better QB that he forgot to spell check.

Regardless of if it was Lamar (who I don’t want) or someone else. Fans have to right to want better at the QB position. It’s just called being a fan. You don’t have to agree, just like we won’t agree that Mediocre Taylor makes us any better.

Not really, he’s just putting you girls back in reality check after your relentless & irrational LJ onslaught backfired. Clearly we didn’t want to sell out the franchise. Amazing you couldn’t grasp this.

You don’t seem so excited anymore so it probably worked for Gaz.

Sorry buddy. No “homers”, no “we have a right”, no “QB at all cost” crap. Just plain old logic about building the team. You were wrong and most here were right.

Its fun! 😄

ALLLLLL of this @Freddies 3rd Cuz !!!! If the Falcons roster were loaded with quality playmakers on defense and offense as well as the cap space, then yes you go for Lamar Jackson, who is a Top 10 QB in this league who ONLY has a couple of TEs to throw the ball to.  However, the Falcons needed quality players ALL OVER their roster. Therefore, it was not smart to bring in Jackson, not at this stage of the rebuilding of the roster.

I am also happy when the way the Falcons are building this team. But I also am not going to call Jackson some mediocre QB. Nope, he is not a Mahomes, but he is in that Top 10 list.

The other problem with Lamar is that he missed 6 games and 99% of another game last year, so he pretty much missed 7 games last year.  Plus he missed, I think, 4 or 5 games the year before that.  He hasn't finished a season in two years.  He's at that age where Cam Newton fell apart.  By age 28 Newton was done, Lamar is 26.  Does anybody reasonably think that his proneness to injuries will get better with age?  It's a major concern.

On the fence with this pickup.  Long as he is a backup. I do not see great potential if we have to rely on him in case of Ridder getting injured.

:munch:

I don't think the idea is that he can be the future. They intend to give Ridder that chance and if he proves not to be the guy, Taylor can be the bridge to the guy we draft in 2024: A bridge that can actually be much better than Mariota and with the other changes to this team can win enough to get us back into the playoffs at least. I mean we won 7 with basically no QB for most of the year in 2022.

Looking at that being the role for our #2 this season, he seems the perfect fit. I can't think of a better one if we are going to give Ridder his shot.

Girls? Come on Hash… I expect better from you. You’re gonna have to show me some receipts where I relentlessly pounded the table for Lamar my man. It seems you’re response is more geared towards someone else. Try again bud.

Maybe it was Swayzee, lol, my bad if you weren’t part of that onslaught.

No LJ, no drafting a QB at #8, signed a vet backup, and Ridder is the starter

Pretty much what most of us said all along.

We haven’t even got to the draft yet. Slow down skippy.

I'm totally against signing LJ, but to think he's not a winner or couldn't win here in the Atl because he's a running QB with terrible accuracy issues is totally asinine. He's been a league MVP and had completion percentages of 66% 64% 64% in three of his 5 seasons. Plus he won games with his legs extending plays over and over. The dude can ball.

I'm not about breaking the bank and giving up draft capital to acquire him, but let's not throw rocks now that this regime has moved on from him. He's a top 10 QB and will automatically win a team 10 games per yr doing his thing.

Once again, I said TF and AS were too smart to moratge the future as they almost did with D Watson. Lesson learned.

Lamar is a very very special player who can win a SB in the future. But let's not fool ourselves and act like he's a loser or just a flat out terrible passer.

For some reason he's become very polarizing and some just aren't willing to consider anything other than an argument against him.

Was never for him coming here because of the compensation and state of the team, but that doesn't mean we can't judge him fairly.

Nah, it’s fits your character. Self righteous and snobby, so again I ask Terry; what’s the plan for the draft?

A defensive or offensive lineman or a cornerback.  Not. Quarterback.  Then again, you know this but pretend otherwise for some unfathomable reason.
