I don't think Lamar was a realistic option due to the fact that we really needed to build the team more, and couldn't afford to give up both picks and a huge contract to get him here. That said, I also don't think Ridder's guaranteed the job. Hienicke will likely go into 2023 as one of the highest paid backup QB's, with performance incentives to escalate his contract up to 20 million in value, including playoffs. So it's Ridder's job to lose at this point, but the leash might not be a full season long leash. With it being a 2 year deal, i'd speculate that if Ridder doesn't secure the job, then we're definitely going for a QB in 2024.
