Falcons decide not to tag Kaleb McGary, nor pursue Lamar Jackson per sources

Mickey Loomis if we think our cap is a disaster I’ve watched Loomis juggle his for what seems a decade and continually be competitive.

The man does seem to have a gift, but when all this finally comes home to roost, the Stains gonna have a roster of practice squad players and XFL cast-offs for 15 straight seasons. 😂

would be lying if I said I didn’t get my hopes up a little when the original report suggested the Falcons were going after Jackson. I’m not sure it would have been the best course of action, but at the very least, it would have brought some life to what has been a lifeless franchise over the last five years.

NO.

If Dimitroff was here he would overpay McGary -   TD felt if a player he drafted turned out, it was 100% imperative he be re-signed - as that justified his position as a GM.    It's always good when a player you draft turns out, but Dimitroff always overvalued them and wouldn't let them test the market - sometimes you just gotta take your comp pick and draft again - and find bargains.

TD never met a salary cap he couldn't bust.

Folks used to call TD a cap wizard when he was in fact terrible with the cap/contracts.

Without actually checking, smart money says that same youtube account made at least one video within the last month saying the exact opposite.

So we find a solid tackle and..just let him go ? We have cap space, and that’s a major position, especially with a young QB that needs protection. Not sure what TF is thinking with this one.

They haven’t let him go.. they’re negotiating. If he decides to walk that’d be his decision and prerogative. They say they want to keep him so if he feels like what they’re offering is fair he’ll be back. If not.. we have money and draft picks. Gotta let the Gm.. GM. I’d say he’s done well so far and they always have a plan so let’s see what happens.

They will probably offer McGary two or three years at something not approaching franchise tag money. All not tagging him means is they value him at less than the tag number. It doesn't mean they don't value him at all. He'll get an offer. Both sides will probaby be content with whatever he deceides to do with it.

There is only one team with the run-heavy offense and the cap space obviously available to sign McGary and that is the Bears.  However, they have been tied to signing McGlinchey-SF who is the same age but 1 season more experienced and not coming off a career year.

Most other teams are either pass-heavy and have to see how bad McGary is pass-blocking or don't have the cap space to spend on a $15 - $20 million tackle unless they sacrifice elsewhere.  The Titans might could use and afford him but McGary would likely be their only FA pickup.

McGary also has to realize signing elsewhere will mean having to learn a new offense which is not exactly fun or easy.  And, most teams that could afford him are probably even further behind us in the rebuilding stage with no hopes of playoffs soon (as opposed to the Falcons whose division has no clearly dominant team now).

Well done!

Man, ain't nobody rushing home to watch Ridder and the Falcons if they have a choice to see Jackson and the Falcons win, lose or draw.

Don't really care who watches, how many butts in seats, doesn't matter a bit to me. Tv contracts will still pay out with advertiser money. Put a freakin winning team on the field and your desires will be met unless your desire is to completely bankrupt the team of talent and money for a player who has made no difference on his present team.

I mean honestly man, how does having the Benz filled benefit you, me, or the general public. Oh, I know, it will entice big name fa to want to play for the Falcons. Nope, not a chance. It's a JOB, they do it for money. Something we won't have with 25% of our cap going to one player. Speaking of cap, it's the same amt for every team regardless of how much money is made through butts in seats.

I am. If we’d have signed Lamar I’d pass. No time for a franchise gutting themselves for an injury prone QB without playoff pedigree.
