TheRisen999
I think 8 is a little too high but if we could get him in the 2nd or 3rd (probably won’t still be on the board) that would be awesome. I mentioned in another thread that while I know a lot can & will change between now & the draft, if I had to pick a player that right now my gut says they'd take at #8, Branch is that dude. He's a top 20 prospect on most boards, top 10 on many. He has versatility & would be a scheme fit. He absolutely fits areas of need. We just hired a dude to the staff who has been a defensive analyst for Bama for the past two years, so they should be VERY familiar with what Branch brings to the table. TF just mentioned at his combine presser how much a dude like this is a starter, since teams are in nickel like 70% of the time these days. Not a flashy player, but a rock solid, ready to go prospect that can hit the ground running & become a huge part of making this secondary into a strength... especially when paired with the addition of someone like Jessie Bates. So yeah, I could absolutely see them taking him, and at #8, too. TheRisen999, Aluminafalcon and Fernando C.
dirtybirds233
Best safety in the draft and can play in the nickel as well. Edited March 2 by dirtybirds233 TheRisen999

Terry just talked in his presser about how important it is to have a 3rd safety/NB these days because teams spend the majority of the time in nickel. To me, Branch is PERFECT for that role. So I say you still try to grab Bates to play FS, and Branch is used as a huge upgrade over Oliver. I'd still re-sign oliver to be the dime and sometimes even nickel when we slot branch in at safety. That gets grant off the field on passing downs. KRUNKuno
I’m sure everybody wants to play for any nfl team…especially if it means top 8 money. Branch is cool. I think he plays a bit timid at times, but overall he was one of my top DBs. 8 is way too high for him though. I think he would be great, but if he's our guy I would love to trade down a few spots and then get him. FalconFan13
I could 100% see a secondary of CB 1 - AJ CB 2 - Heyward Nickle / Safety - Branch FS - Bates SS - Grant Have Oliver, Alford, and Hawkins as depth. That is a fantastic secondary and very versatile and covering for injury. TheRisen999

This build the defense from outside in is just silly, and has failed us for years. Jpg428gggg
I would not be disappointed if we took him. He is a versatile football player who can do everything. Having that kind of versatility is great for defensive coordinator.

Drafting secondary does mean we don’t address the D-line in the draft and free agency. If a high end edge prospect is there at 8 then we should absolutely go for it but if the higher rated player available is at CB or Safety then that should be the pick. But i am more than fine grabbing a Edge in FA then triple dipping in rounds 2 through 5 for one as well. Guys like Mcdonald, FAU, Smith, Ade, Young, etc... show almost as much upside if not more than a guy like Ness without us having to reach for ness at 8. I just don't think it's an absolute you have to take Edge at 8 if theirs not a guy worthy of it there just to get one. When the guy in the 2nd round we take is more on par with the guy you reached for at 8. poutlipper
celtiksage
I agree with others on here, Branch is one I could see us taking. Anthony Richardson is the other. Not saying I want to take either of them or at least not at 8, but both seem to be exact "types" for us. Be nice if we could trade down to about 11 or 12 and pick up another 2nd rounder. I will say though, all this talk about nickle, and 5-6 DBs, and seemingly Brian Branch talk, etc., also smells like a ruse.

ATLFalcon36
Only way I like DB is if we traded back to 11-14, pick up another second and 3/4 and double dip at edge (five tech and speed edge). Love any combo of Tuli and one of the speed guys like FAU, McDonald, The northwestern guy, Zach Harrison. Etc.
