Offensive 3 and out Rate in 2022

Recommended Posts

Arty is a very good play caller regardless of his critics here. A rookie WR1, no WR2, a QB that was pretty bad, TE1 missed over half the year and many questions about the OL going into the season and he coached them the best way he could with what he had to work with.

Just give the man his due.....we got a **** good one and folks need to appreciate him.

yup we have a few low class trolls who want to undermine TF & AS & are actively undermining them after two years of inheriting a mess.
Pretty pathetic actually.

The Falcons went 1-6 in games where the opponent scored 21 points or less, 3 of which the opponent scored less than 20. That's....really bad.

Probably why we changed QBs I’m guessing’.

Oh and Pees coached darn near perfect to have that stat with the group he had.

I'm not giving anyone any due that has zero winning seasons under their belt. I said from the beginning that I wouldn't blame him for the first few years because of cap constraints, but that doesn't mean I'm going to praise him yet either. Yes, he produced a solid running game, but his passing games have left a lot to be desired. Since he became oc of the Titans there have been 42 4000 yard passers. He's produced zero of them.

I just don't understand how some think these guys are above critique....

Exactly, I just don’t get the praise. Who cares about this stat we we’re not even scoring points?

The offense was 15th in points and 26th in offensive plays. The amount of time the defense spent on the field with their abysmal opposing T.O.P. and 3rd down defense severely handicapped the offenses ability to have more opportunities to score.

Didn't say he wasn't above critiquing. His passing game was pretty decent with MR2 even tho he got sacked 400 times with a sorry offensive line without Julio and Ridley. Last year  Mariota nuff said but without a WR2 and TE1 plus a rookie WR1.

Bro go take some Midol and get over it your never happy 😂/jk

Critique him, fine, but if you can’t step back and see good things happening with lesser talent that logically as more talent is added should translate into more wins, not sure what to tell you.  Elite run game was built with basically no name RBs and a journeyman WR turned RB.  All that with by far the most 8 man fronts faced in the league this year.  If Ridder can back them off some, pass game gets more explosive and run game does as well.  The wins will come when we don’t have by far the least amount of cap spent on defense next year.  He got the two best years out of Henry and Tannehill’s career, that matters.  They have been awful without him.

Hmm the Titans did poorly at three and outs while the Falcons did well....

Hey now, that doesn't fit the narrative that Arthur Smith was just riding Derrick Henry's coattails at all!

Emoji Think GIF

Pretty clear Smith made that offense.  Compare the years before and after he was there.

Titans offensive DVOA ranks

2017: 18th
2018: 23rd
2019: 6th
2020: 4th

2021: 20th
2022: 21st

Care to guess what two years Henry led the league in yards and TDs?  The only two seasons he averaged over 5 YPC?  Not to mention the top two years of Tannehill’s career in passer rating (best in NFL in 2019) and QBR, while also having his highest yards per attempt of his career those two years.

Smith made Henry and Tannehill, not the other way around.  It’s also why Allgeier as a rookie averaged 4.9 ypc while facing the most 8 man boxes in the league.  Yet people refuse to give him any credit yet because of the win / loss record in two tear down years.  Mind blowing.

The thing about AS is that he'll have a killer drive going, running the ball down their throat and have all the momentum in the world. Then he'll call some "cute ****", lose 4 yards and settle for a FG.

It happens to all OC's. No one knows it's going to happen or they wouldn't call the play. When those cute plays work everyone says rah rah. Pretty sure every team in the NFL College High School Youth League have offensive plays for loss of yardage on a regular basis. It happens and will continue to happen. It's called football.

We all sit up in the stands or watch on TV and say why did he call that stupid play lol. It's a little more sophisticated than that.

When you view it in a vacuum, sure. But reality is that the kind of plays I'm talking about are bone-headed decisions when looking at the situation and the context of those calls. I live by a simple code...do it until they stop it. When you are running the ball for 6 YPC on a drive, keep doing it until they stop it. Keep the momentum, no need to break it w/ some cute playcall to try to prove your intellectual superiority.

It's like the Seattle superbowl. Eveyone on earth knows they should have ran lynch. That's not a hindsight thing, it's a common sense thing. Even if the pass play worked, it still had a lower chance of success than simply running lynch.
