Dont hate the poster just thought i’d share.

When asked about the fate of the quarterback position heading into next season, Falcons head coach Arthur Smith opted to continue hiding his cards regarding a decision.

“I don’t think it’s smart business strategy ever to give away what your plan is. Everybody is trying to look at their free-agency boards, and there are a lot of decisions to be made. I think you’re in a bad organization if every day-to-day thing (you think) is out there,” Smith said to The Athletic

And I don’t know a successful team that reveals their plans just before the draft.

Plans for? He specifically mentioned Free Agency. Also, any team concrete in there QB plans has no desire to be non-committal on their starting QB. AS was as bullish on Mariota being QB1 last off-season there was no need to question it. IJS

What if he has informed Ridder behind closed doors and blowing smoke to the media?

It’s possible. But why blow smoke for Ridder? I’d assume it be easier to just say he’s the guy. No?

Why not? Think about it. The entire sports world expects the Falcons to trade for Lamar Jackson. Why not allow them to keep thinking it so someone else will overpay?

I don't see it the same way as the OP.  I think it is smart to keep every player on your team on his toes.  Ridder has work to do this off season.  It is far better to keep him sharp and focused.  It is also easier to attract a veteran QB via FA when that QB believes he has a competitive chance to earn the starting role.

The Lamar Jackson rumors are out there, but I just don't think it is likely.  The team needs to rebuild its roster.  We all know that. Trading and spending for Jackson will cost valuable draft picks and plenty of cap space.  It does not sound like a move this FO wold make.

Time will tell, but I would go with Ridder in '23 and continue to improve the team.

I agree... I don't see this as a negative... They just like holding there cards close.

If you heard the owner who is more talkative he basically said what he said...

It is so unrealistic to expect Arthur Smith to open up about anything concerning his views on players or anything else. He has yet to give out impressions, informatin,

or anything else concerning players or his job. His press conferences are back and forth with the media where they ask questions and he doesn't answer them.

If you want him to answer the way you think he should practice ventriloquism.

Bill belichick response. Journalists hate it because it tells you absolutely nothing. Those that think ridder is starter find enough in statement to justify position and those that think we will draft of sign a fa starter at qb get enough to justify their. Position

Mind games.  Or more aptly, Psychological warfare.

My take is simple if that’s your guy (Ridder) you want to give him every reason to go in to the off-season confident and ready. I don’t know of any successful team that was so non committal to their “future starting” QB

It happens often. Jalen Hurts is the most salient and recent example. And if you say it's because they weren't totally sure themselves - all they did in the off-season was get Minshew, ie: a capable backup. Unless we swing big for LJ, I'm pretty confident that's what we've got planned as well.
