Just hope this SS situation works out.

As of rn there is uncertainty at SS, LF and bottom of rotation.

There is not uncertainty in left field. Eddie Rosario is the left fielder. Marcell Ozuna will DH, at least on days Sean Murphy isn't.

Uncertainty as to whether LF is going to be a liability or not.

Well that's a whole different thing.

I think it will be Grissom at short, Pillar and Hilliard as the reserve OFs, and Shuster as the 5th starter, at least for now.

The biggest battle right now may be between Jesse Chavez and Nick Anderson for the last bullpen spot.

Anderson has been doing really well hasn't he?

I'd imagine his upside is enough to give him the edge.

Chavez is beloved though, and Anderson has options. Eli White has been doing great too, and he's almost certainly going to get optioned.

If it was up to me, I'd go Anderson though. He looks like one of the four best arms in the pen.

I expect Chavez to make the team because he can fill multiple roles (long-relief, spot starter) and he has no problem going multiple innings on back-to-back days.

According to the AJC, Byrd is stepping away to deal with personal matters. He will likely return at some point just like Glavine. AJC said Brian Jordan had an offer but declined it, he was ready to move on.

On a side note, Mark Bowman said Smoltz is still on the table. Bowman claims Smoltz is still an option to fill in for a few games this year.

Wrights first spring start today. So far 2IP, 4 ER, 2 HR allowed.

Looked like a typical first appearance of the spring. Looked fine mechanically, command off and missing in the zone, curveball not at the proper shape. Came out in the third on a 2-2 count, but apparently not injured, just on a hard pitch count.

Arcia is the SS for Opening Day. Adrianza will be the backup. Stunner of a move. It did become pretty clear that there were concerns about Grissom's glove. He didn't play SS for nearly a week. Just needs more time to work on it. Shewmake is a fine defender but the Braves apparently weren't comfortable with his bat.

Did he actually outplay either one of them?

Also which on is playing oop in AAA? We were told 1 would go down and get every day ABs.

No, he was OK but he didn't hit as much as Grissom or even Shewmake. The Braves are just clearly valuing the defense and range over Grissom's bat. Let him keep working on the defense at AAA. Shewmake probably would be a lighter bat than Arcia.

But Shewmake would also be much better with the glove.

Just looked around a bit and if you took the worst of Shewmake and Grissom, tossed them into a blender you'd get Arcia.

This makes absolutely zero sense.

Anthopolous has said he's a big believer in Arcia. They felt with some tweaks he could be a productive bat at the bottom of the lineup. I guess we're going to find out.

Eli White, Luplow and Nick Anderson were all sent to AAA as well. Hilliard and Pillar are left as the 4th OF option. DOB said the Braves plan on Anderson being a huge part of the pen this year but for now he has options and needed a little more time to build his arm.

His glove is sketchy at best.

This was the worst case scenario when they passed on a SS and kept gassing us up over Grissom.

To answer that question, DOB just said Shewmake will play 2B at AAA. Grissom will be at SS. A chance for Shewmake to get familiar with another spot and Grissom to keep working at SS.

You could tell when AA did the interview with DOB, he had reservations about Grissoms glove. He indicated he felt he might not be ready but Wash was so adamant he could get him there. AA trusted Wash would have him ready, he might be ready soon but it's clear they didn't think he was ready now.

The way he kept talking about Arcia's 2017 made me wonder. I don't think this is the long-term plan, though. I suspect we don't want either kid to break camp with the team and feel a ton of pressure. Instead, we'll integrate one of them, probably by mid-May.
