These rules a stupid and just allows the ump to be the center of attention.

Can you imagine if a playoff game ends like that?

Literally the scenario every child who has played the game dreams of and the pinnacle of fan involvement and it ends because an ump thinks a guy isn't ready.

The players will get use to it.

Faster games aren’t going to bring new people into baseball.

people pay to experience as long an event as possible. Nobody is ever sitting at a ball game thinking “man I can’t believe this game isn’t over yet”.

you can’t ruin games over a timer in the ninth inning with the bases loaded. If you wanna speed the game up some through the first 7 innings or so, whatever. But it ain’t gonna work for teams to be losing tight ball games in the 9th inning over a timer.

It is interesting because NFL games arent much different as far as length. They're looking to shorten games but I think they're also looking to increase the action. Football has that aspect of quick action. Baseball is a slow game, we all know it, personally I don't mind it cause it's my top sport to follow but they're trying to bring things on par a little as far as the action goes and cut out some of the dead periods of a pitcher stalling or hitter adjusting his gear 20 times after every pitch. There's a viral video of the entire Kentucky Derby taking place perfectly in between 2 pitches from Greinke.

Thats the kind of stuff they're trying to eliminate. I love baseball as it is but I get what they're coming from. It can be hard to spend 3 to 4 hours watching a game these days.

I'd never seen this before. It may be the greatest thing ever.

Rule states the catcher only needs to be in the catcher box to be ready but the batter has to be in the box AND be looking at the pitcher.

Pretty silly.

Yeah it’s a silly rule that the batter has to be looking at the pitcher. Rule should be once batter is in box he is deemed ready regardless of where he is looking. Hopefully rule gets changed.

There is no problem here. The batter just needs to be in the box and looking at the pitcher and he won't get a strike. There's going to be a lot of this for the next two weeks, talk radio will pontificate and bluster for awhile, and by the end of spring training no one is going to bat an eye.

This all happened already at the minor league level. When it first started, there were about 4 violations called on someone a game. Within a few weeks it was down to like 1 or 2 a week.

What about the kids that dream of being the ump to make that call?

What about their feelings too!!?

Yes they do.

That or better yet, leave in the sixth inning to beat the traffic.

Can’t tell you how many times I have been to Truist and seen people just get up in the middle of the game and go, never to be seen again.

Snitker said he got a call from MLB about Saturday's ending. They told him the umps were correct and the catcher being in position doesn't matter as long as he's inside the box. Snit said it's a learning experience and they know now not to wait on the catcher.

Actually about half of people think that.  I go to about 15 Stripers games a year and one of the big attractions is that the game is over in under 2 1/2 hours.  Having a 7:00 start end by 9:30 is big on a weeknight
