Can someone with better knowledge than me, explain how Derek Carr can be traded before his 40 mil guaranteed kicks in on Feb 15?

I know this shouldnt be here in this forum, but it keeps bugging me about how the raiders want to trade carr before his guarantee kicks in.. according to the NFL website trading period starts on March 15, so how can he be traded before his guarantees kick in?

I dont know why its bugging me, but it is...lol... I'm just curious how they plan on getting around this,

He currently only has 5.625 guaranteed remaining, so if they were to trade or release him, they would save almost 30mil.

If they wait until 2/15 however, then his 2023 salary becomes fully guaranteed as well as 7.5 of his 2024 salary.

Now, they could still trade him at that point, as the salary would move to the new team, but cutting him becomes not viable.

He also has a no trade clause in his contract which means that he'd have to OK any trade agreed to, and there are few teams able and/or willing to take on that large of a cap hit.

Haven't you heard? The NFL is scripted. On page 276 it's right there...

Mark Davis: (while the bowl is placed on his head for a haircut) Trade him! Trade him now!

He might've gotten a lot action with that hair cut.

.....and his dad's money. Although I think Al would've left him out of his will entirely and disowned him if had known that his son would bring Jon Gruden back as HC of the Raiders after he was dead.

Dude has a bowl mullet. Two of the most notorious and ridiculed haircuts of all time. That takes some cajones. Brave man indeed.

So basically Carr can be a pain in the Raiders *** if he chooses to.

They trade cannot legally take place until 3/15 he can negotiate in good faith to kick his bonus until then or after.

Carr is about to be the wife that refuses to leave because she has you by the balls when she caught you cheating.

This relationship could be pure **** before it's overwith.

I feel like he is smart. I am sure he knows what teams are interested in him. Force the Raiders hand to cut you, pick your spot where you want to go and the team did not have to lose draft picks to obtain his services meaning that's just 1+ more piece(s) for the roster.

I hate the Saints but Carr makes a ton of sense for them. Would require a lot of pieces being moved around to create cap space but we see them do it every year.

It'll be interesting for sure.

I think Jets are closest to win now mode in that all they really need is a QB to be a very dangerous team.

I don't know how the LV market is like with it being a very new NFL territory but if Carr thinks he can handle being in NY then he should definitely go to the Jets.
