He says TD didn't know the roster and then just rattles off a bunch of players. He's ****ting on the Julio move when that move should have won us a super bowl and was probably the best move in franchise history. 

 

Maybe **** on TD for not being able to find a pass rusher. Not one of the things he did right that turned us into a super bowl team.

I mean ... this is kind of stupid hindsight analysis. Could saving those draft picks have built a better team? I think Cleveland got like 5 draft picks from that trade up and not one of them ever did squat for Cleveland. We can argue that Julio Jones actually elevated the Falcons, and I will go on record to say that we would not have made the Superbowl without him. I applaud Dimitroff for that move today just like I did back in 2011. It was a gutsy ballsy move that this franchise had never done before in its history, and in my estimation looking back it paid off. To be honest, we probably could have needed a few more clutch plays from our QB position, and maybe some better Offensive Coordinating in the 2nd Half of the Superbowl... but we had a pretty good team during Julio's run here.

Its easy to look back and call out mistakes but I really disagree with this guys opinion. Dimitroff knew the roster, and he stated that he "was tired of getting beat by elite players" so he wanted to draft one. And he did. It was a good move IMO.

If someone wants to crap on Dimitroff, it should be for not having the stones to stand up to Blank and Quinn.  Blank's public non-negotiation of contracts (Falcon for life!), and Quinn's unwarranted authority over personnel were the biggest problems of TD's later years.  TD went along, and ended up losing his job anyway.

TD couldn’t find pash rushers to save his life, but he was a pretty good GM overall.

I mean TF hasn’t drafted very well so far either?? It takes time to truly know for sure but as it stands right now he’s maybe hit on 3 of 17 total picks.

TD takes a lot of crap from folks here, and he deserves some of the criticism for sure, but the issues that took place with the team under his watch never seemed to be entirely his doing from my perspective.

The entire time TD was here -- through two different coaching staffs -- there was a total lack of  any sort of genuine identity. Sure, both Smitty & Quinn threw all the coach-speak flavor-of-the-minute buzz words around to make it sound like they had a plan, but neither HC seemed to actually have a true identity they were willing to stick to... certainly nothing like what we've seen thus far with AS & TF.

While both Smitty & DQ got off to good starts, the second things went even just a little bit off, both started scapegoating like a MF'er. Both went through countless coordinators & position coaches, seeming to blame everyone but themselves when the team fell short of expectations. In turn, the team lacked a consistent style of play & attitude.

It's said that it typically takes 2-3 years before you can start to really judge a draft class. When panic is causing the team to rotate coordinators almost every 2-3 years, it becomes really difficult to draft players. By the time they should be hitting their stride, the schemes change & they no longer fit what the HC is trying to do.

Despite this, TD actually built two rosters capable of being Super Bowl contenders under two different staffs who were seemingly in a constant state of changing philosophies. That's pretty impressive.

He sucked at managing the contracts toward the end. He sucked at not speaking up.. to Blank, the HCs, or anyone else that held sway in the decision making process during that span & may have been responsible for that panicked, reactionary approach.

They basically had a sports car cruising down the highway. Occasionally, it hit a patch of ice & started skidding a little. Rather than keeping their cool & staying the course like you're supposed to it those situations, they freaked out & started drastically jerking the wheel for no good reason. The result: both Smitty & Quinn spun out into a ditch while the ride went up in flames.

Blaming TD for that crap is like blaming the mechanic who kept trying to rebuild the car those morons kept wrecking. In fairness to both Smitty & Quinn though, Blank was almost certainly distracting the heck out of them by backseat driving the whole time.

The elephant in the room is if we draft another pass catcher in the 1st round (three years running)...GM, know your team better than anyone.

Lol that's what they're doing - two solid drafts with handcuffs on in FA. We are on the way. Sit back and watch what a real GM does. TF and AS was handed the worst roster in the NFL and still won 7 games twice with a awful roster. Lighten up bro be real. They are still cleaning up TD's mess.

All these guys have been contributors and some major contributors. This is two years. That's a great core of players. The adding part is coming via FA after getting out of TD's cap hail. Plus another draft. 

You must be blind if you can't see all the positives things TF and AS are doing. But some ppl always see the glass half empty. I see it half full and a kick *** future with this FO and coach especially if Ridder is as good as he looked considering all things in those last four games.

Make no mistake TD too inherited such a mess.

This is the year for this regime if they don’t get us playoff bound with a 3rd draft and a flush with cash FA the seat gets warmer for them.

Remember also 5 of the first 6 seasons under TD the team made the playoffs and probably 2010-12 should have won or competed for a SB.The GM was also Exec of the year twice in those years.

But everything was okay - it was passion lol. Another TD BLUNDER. Bless. Dude couldn't buy trade or draft a pass rusher but according to many it was the DBs. Get over it. No one can make it right.
