Senior Bowl buzz: Latest rumors around 2023 NFL draft, offseason moves

What is Atlanta's plan under center?

Fowler: As the Atlanta Falcons evaluate their options at quarterback, a few themes have emerged:

  • They liked Desmond Ridder's four-game stretch. His numbers were modest, with 708 yards and two touchdown passes to zero interceptions. But that last statistic is significant. He's definitely an option to consider.

  • Lamar Jackson to the Falcons would be a great story, but someone with the team pointed out to me that Atlanta spent three years getting out of salary-cap purgatory and now sits on an estimated $56 million in space. Not that the Falcons couldn't use that on a high-profile QB, but giving up multiple first-round picks for the right to spend $200-plus million isn't something Atlanta will be overly eager to do unless absolutely needed.

  • One league personnel evaluator had a good suggested fit for Atlanta: Jimmy Garoppolo. A bridge starter with QB1 upside, Garoppolo would get shades of the Niners' Kyle Shanahan offense with the Falcons, thanks to Arthur Smith's lean on the run and play-action. And Garoppolo would come at a reasonable financial clip.

I don’t think we go with Jackson or Garapolo but if we went with either I would prefer Garapolo. He would be cheaper financially and wouldn’t cost us draft picks or players. I just don’t see us giving up the farm and paying through the nose for one player no matter who that player is. Not a knock on Lamar at all but it just doesn’t make sense. We have needs everywhere and we are not just one player away.

I feel like we are at the point that if you liked what Ridder did enough. He is your guy for 2023

The only way paying a guy like Jimmy G 15-20 mil is if you don't have a QB you believe in... It's crazy for him to do and us to bring a guy at that price range just to compete for the job (is not the favorite) and now 15-20 mil is sitting on your bench.

We need to sign a good capable QB who can compete but Ridder is the guy for 2023 while u spend that money to build this team

I think the best option is just to take a QB in the draft to compete with Ridder. We obviously won't get one of the top QBs but perhaps someone in the later rounds that is decent enough to develop and push Ridder

I like the kid from UCLA.  Could be had in the 3rd or 4th round.

If he doesn't find a better option for playing time, Jacoby Brissett is a possibility.

As much as TATF may scoff, drafting Stetson Bennett in the 5th or 6th would provide an entertaining option should Ridder miss time with injuries. Can't afford to use an earlier pick on someone who's not expected to get snaps in real games.

Y’all know I’m a consistent Jimmy G fan. But he’s taken some serious injuries and those will catch up to him.
And he won’t “bring” Shanny’s offense with him. Because he won’t bring Deebo and Kittle and Aiyuk and CMC with him.
Jimmy G is absolutely a dude the team would rally around. But at this moment I am not sure he brings any more than Ridder.

Ridder will be starting QB week 1. If not for late game fumbles he woulda been 4-0 at best 3-1 at worst.

What would his numbers be if the 2nd half of the Tampa game never happened? He had 90 yards at the half and they pulled their entire defense, do you not see any coincidence with that?

Answer, not real good.

The falcons are a completely different team then what I am used to. Deshaun Watson was a player the falcons was going to trade for. I do not think the falcons was going to give him the money or the draft capital to get him, but they did want him.

So if the price and draft capital is right for Lamar Jackson I can see the Falcons bring him in. Jimmy G I doubt there is any way that falcons go after him.

All we can say is that the jury is still out on Des.  I like the kid.  I think he has real potential and if not with us, forge a decent livelihood as a journeyman QB.  Totally pulling for him.  And unless we have vectored in on a QB in the draft, he has to be the prohibitive QB1 next season.  Lets see what happens in FA.

For sure.  I think we should have brought Des in three games before we did.  He needed time to run the offense.

Pay one of Chase Daniel, Blaine Gabbert, Case Keenum, etc about $2.5 million to be a reliable backup....

Let Ridder play and see what we have...if its not there this year, then we know it was a 3rd round pick and we can move on very easily...

Next years draft class is extremely loaded at QB

Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Michael Penix, Jordan Travis, Sam Hartmann

There arent going to be 5 teams in the Top 15 trying to draft a QB next year after Young, Stroud, and Levis all go in 1st round...

Next years draft will be deep at QB, but it will be like the Mahomes, Allen, Watson draft where you can get one outside the Top 5...it happens every 4-6 years in the NFL after teams go through their cycles and enough QBs "hit" and stay in the league with teams.

I think many of us feel that way.

I really think we could be a playoff team, and with the parity these days, I can say that even a salty ******* like myself can say we have a chance any given Sunday (especially with a time of possession ball control style).
