I doubt it with us releasing our OLB coach, DL coach, and secondary coach. Shultz just doing his normal not making sense argument again

He could be just bringing his own guys though, which is normal in a coordinator change.

I think AS and TF said that they didn't want to change scheme wise during their end of the season interview if I can remember correctly.

If you read the thread this guy can do it all and single handily was the DC of the Saints and all the positions coach at the same time.

What a hire!

It's ridiculous. The saints might run some 3-4 stuff occasionally but they're 100% a 4-3 team..... Cam Jordan and Marcus davenport play defensive end, not 3-4 olb.

True. I'm sure he already incorporates stuff that Pees ran, most defenses run multiple looks anyways

I was looking at the top candidates being floated around here and the only one that really caught my attention that I felt could turn this defense around is Nielson. I am STOKED we got him. He’s really good at developing young guys, something we’ve sucked at for years.

I didn't know him from a cigar store Indian, but when I read how good he is at developing his players, who would be a better fit for us? He helped the Saints put up killer sack numbers handling the DL. I have no problem with Ryan Nielsen being our DC.

To be honest, Falcons defense could still be listed as a 3-4 defense on paper and be really something else a good bit of the time.

It's really just labels at this point. Like how the NBA is really more positionless basketball nowadays but just still keep the labels.

To be quite fair, if we had the Saints D last year we'd have been in the playoffs!

Was a little underwhelmed at first announcement (considering Fangio, Flores, etc), but the more I think about it, the more I like:

1) Weakening a hated Division rival

2) Having a nasty D like the... You know, that team...

3) Hopefully at least 2-3 years before he starts getting HC mentions...

All these these things ⬆️. Every one of them ⬆️

In particular defensive linemen. Who can’t get on board with the kind of numbers his DL was generating in run defense and sacks (averaged 38 per season for 6 years) and this was with a LOT of different DL.

I am really excited about having him here.

I wonder if Eagles don't tag him could Falcons make a run for CJ Gardner-Johnson in FA?

I doubt it since NO got rid of him for magic beans. All they got was moving a 7th up to a fifth and a sixth next year. That doesn't happen if the DCs like the player. I *like* CJGJ and had hoped we'd sign him. I'm afraid that's unlikely now.

Like how suddenly TF was the GM of the Saints and Loomis was just hanging out..lol.

Dude, he was the DL coach before he was DL coach-Asst DC. Between 2017 and last season the Saints had 233 sacks. That's several more than we had if you go check. This is a far smarter hire than all the "obvious" choices us dumb-zzz fans were slobbering over. We have the youth and talent, he has the teaching and motivation skills. It's okay to let go the suck and walk toward the light of day again. 😆

Not a fan of the move but I hope I'm wrong. I hope the first thing I'm wrong about is bringing in Davenport 😳

That was the first thought that popped into my head.

Davenport is going to get overpaid by someone....and with TF and now Neilson that team may very well be us.
