My goodness, check this guy out, he’s got a phenomenal track record and ties to TF. He’s young, creative, and his defenses have been consistently great. To be quite fair, if we had the Saints D last year we'd have been in the playoffs! Was a little underwhelmed at first announcement (considering Fangio, Flores, etc), but the more I think about it, the more I like: 1) Weakening a hated Division rival 2) Having a nasty D like the... You know, that team... 3) Hopefully at least 2-3 years before he starts getting HC mentions... gazoo, Mid-Nite-Toker, Skin doc and 4 others 6
falconsd56
The question is.... How much is he responsible for that success? Was he calling plays? A red flag is anytime somebody is a CO-anything. Did he call first and second down and then give up play calling on 3rd or vice versa? Tiny Black Dog, gkgrimes and PokerSteve 1 1

Technically, Saints had like 3 DC's, if you count Dennis Allen... Nielson prolly excited to run the show... And I'm excited to part ways with our terrible defensive positional coaches... falconsd56, Chitown2ATL_Falcon and Kaptain Krazy

He will turn these young guys into QB assassins. Emmitt
DonDaLuvMaker
Falcons could go DE at 8. Probably Wilson or Murphy. Don't really care for Murphy but if Nielsen and his crew can develop his technique then he'll be a monster. VTCrunkler
rcky_mtn_falcon
Here's an interesting piece of information. Ryan Nielson was the DL coach at NC State 2014 - 2016 and had 1 year of overlap with Dewayne Ledford when he was the OL coach from 2016 - 2018. Another thing that gets lost is that Terry Fontenot already knows the kind of guys that Nielson likes to work with due to his years with the Saints. DonDaLuvMaker
I wonder if Eagles don't tag him could Falcons make a run for CJ Gardner-Johnson in FA? Put him at FS and move Grant to SS. He's a pest but his attitude is nasty and was a key component to that Saints defense and now with that Eagles defense. He's also a ball-hawk. But as I keep saying I really don't care who calls the plays.... I just want to see the team win. If he can help us do that in 2023 then great. He would have never even made the list. Comical how many are saying this is a great hire. Same thing happens when we sign some scrub off the streets, so there's that.
