Top 51 NFL free agents of 2023: Lamar Jackson, Roquan Smith, Geno Smith headline early rankings

We need to sell out for Da'ron Payne or Hargrave... 10+ sacks at the DT position would transform our defense, free up Grady and presuming we sign and draft an EDGE, suddenly we have a formidable defense in the front 7.

I did a mock FA over on fanspeak just to see how far our cap space can actually go. I had about 25-30m left after this:

ROSTER
SIGNED PLAYERS
Name Position Cap Hit
Olamide Zaccheaus WR 2,960,000
Kaleb McGary OT 8,400,000
Rashaan Evans LB 1,500,000
D.J. Chark WR 6,650,000
Da'Ron Payne DL 9,000,000
Chauncey Gardner-Johnson S 7,500,000
Mecole Hardman WR 6,800,000
Garrett Bradbury C 8,050,000
David Edwards G 4,800,000
Tremaine Edmunds LB 9,450,000
Yannick Ngakoue EDGE 11,625,000
Justin Houston EDGE 6,000,000
Anthony Averett CB 4,400,000
Kenyan Drake RB 2,000,000

Falcons desperately  need that half though. Don't pay him like a full player, agreed, but  would love to have a player with 10 sacks on the defense.

Problem is he will likely get paid as a full time player. The Raiders gave him 13 mil a year. That price likely goes up this year as all prices do.

4) Juju or Hardman
5) Long Jr or Edmunds
6) Yannick
7) Jamal Dean

Make It Rain Money GIF

Add matt ioannidis he should be cheap and will be extremely productive in our system if we get a true NT...

Don't resign mcgary cause we about to pay Lindstrom the farm. Franchise him. Draft his replacement this year or next. Still gotta be frugal

Don't sign any free agent wide receiver because it's robbery.

Don't sign half a player in Yannick.

Agree with the rest

Didn’t think about franchising McGary. That’s a great call. I love what the Braves do as far as 1 year prove it deals for vets. I would much rather over pay for short term deals. Goal is to build through the draft and not have contracts weighing us down. We have to change things up. This organization is the definition of mediocrity outside of one year since I have been alive.

Jakobi Meyers
New England Patriots · WR · Age: 26

Meyers is somewhere between a solid No. 2 receiver and a perfect No. 3, able to win on the inside and outside with crisp routes. He'd fit in any offense.

Poona Ford
Seattle Seahawks · DT · Age: 27

Ford is hitting free agency after a down year. He didn’t appear to fit in Pete Carroll’s new 3-4 scheme, but he’s shown a high level previously as a penetrator.

Vonn Bell
Cincinnati Bengals · S · Age: 28

A terrific free-agent signing by the Bengals three years ago, Bell is a tight end stopper.

Kaleb McGary
Atlanta Falcons · OT · Age: 28

Another player who significantly improved his value in 2022, McGary has developed into a quality starter at right tackle, especially in the running game.

Arden Key
Jacksonville Jaguars · Edge · Age: 27

When Key replaced an injured Travon Walker in the lineup, the Jaguars' pass rush improved. He is a perfect rotational piece for virtually any system.

Some guys I'd be happy with that probably won't get market-setting contracts (Maybe barring Bell).

Yeah, might have to bit the bullet and do that. He's only 27, sign him to nice 2-3 year deal with a nice signing bonus and hopefully, lots of incentives and spread the hits out.

Dalvin Tomlinson + Yannick if we want a 2-3 year deal or Houston/Ingram on a 1 year deal for the Front 7

Nate Davis at LG

Bonus points for an upgrade at ILB, maybe a guy like Germaine Pratt. A safety would be nice too, but I think the young guys we have back there improve a fair amount with better play up front, so that's farther down my personal priority list.

Sets us up nicely to go BPA in the draft.

Coaches and GMs tend to pursue players in free agency that they're more familiar with (although not always, of course).

But with that in mind, some guys on this list stand out for their connections to our coaching staff or to our front office:

OG Nate Davis

ED Marcus Davenport

DL Da'ron Payne

LB David Long

CB/S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson

S Von Bell

Also, not on this list:

QB Chase Daniel (if they want a vet backup for Ridder who's essentially an extra QB coach)

RB David Montgomery

C/G Wes Schweitzer

ED DeMarcus Walker

DL David Onyemata

LB Kaden Elliss

I'd love to have an older edge rusher who can come in for a year or two and be a pass rush specialist , like Houston did for the Chiefs this year.  He could also teach the kids on the team about pass rush. Not talking about breaking the bank for him, but that'd be a great addition to the defense

As for the list, get Grady some help, an edge rusher and another piece for the defense - say, a safety or corner. So 3 solid pieces on Defense, maybe an Olineman or WR on offense. Get the rest in the draft.

Yup but not over pay

Half a player that gets 8-10 sacks yearly no matter who he plays with. I will sign him

Sacks are simply one play. A tackle for a loss in the running game is the exact same thing. I'd rather a 6 sack guy that doesn't completely get dominated in the running game.

That can be taught. Rushing the passer can’t. If Yannick was on the smaller side i would understand your point sorta. But rushing the passer is the name of the game in the NFL.

It can't be taught to him. That is why a 10 sack a year guy is bouncing around the league. It's not that he's bad against the run, it's that he's god awful.

He was traded for Rock Ya Sin. A very average CB. That is not what normal 10 sack a year guys go for.

His PFF grade against the run was 28.8 almost dead last out of any DE graded. He only had 28 combined tackles from the DE position. Also near dead last and thats counting the 10 sacks....so 18 other tackles for the entire year. That is not an impact player.

If I was a GM I would sign him. But alas I’m not

  2. Jesse Bates SS
  3. CJ Gardner Johnson SS
  4. Tremaine Edmunds LB
  5. Yannick Ngakoue EDGE
  6. Javon Hargrove DT
  7. Dalvin Tomlinson NT
  8. TJ Edwards LB
  9. Kaleb McGary RT
  10. Isaiah Wynn OT
  11. Mike McGlinchey RT
  12. Marcus Davenport EDGE
  13. Tony Pollard HB
  14. Chuma Edoga OG
  15. Arden Key EDGE
  16. Rasheem Green DE
  17. Taylor Rapp FS/SS
  18. Dre’Mont Jones DE
  19. Ethan Pocic OC
  20. Germaine Pratt LB

Realistic targets of the 20 you have listed we could get 6 and a good draft means playoffs in my eyes. Especially if we could get Bates,Payne, and Nguaoke.

Exactly we need a pass rusher to get off the field on 3rd down. That’s been a problem here so long some of our fans just accept it and automatically blame pass coverage. Yeah right but not for humpteen yrs. We’re not winning big until we find a pass rush. How’d that work out for the Eagles this year?
Give me a pass rush please.
