Terry Fontenot personnel blunders

Recommended Posts

I'll bite.

Hurst -  Like Pitts, Hurst is not a blocking TE. Smith loves using 12 personnel (2 TEs) and typically you want both a blocking TE and a receiving TE on the field. Hurst wasn't going to beat out Pitts as the receiving TE.

Foreman - Really? The guy's on his 5th team in 6 years and has played in more than 10 games in a season for the first time in his career this past season. He had a good season, but it's literally the only one he's ever had in his career.

Well, hurst has one of the best qbs in the league throwing to him. And the foreman move always puzzled me. My only guess was he was not it in practice, or didn’t put in the time. Idk, I think I saw stories about Him almost being out of the game and needing to focus

One error I do blame Fontenot for was drafting Shaeffer over Salyer.

It's late rounds sure, but if you've done enough research on the UGA OL to select Shaeffer, you had to recognize Salyer was MUCH better. It made no sense then and even less sense now, as Salyer was one of the best rookie OTs this season for a playoff team.

You could argue not drafting Parsons or Brock Purdy.

Purdy was passed on 253 times by all 32 teams and I don't think a single NFL fan (outside of Iowa State fans) had a clue who he was until a few weeks ago. Odd to put that on TF.

Parsons I'll agree with, but Pitts still had a 1,000 yard season his rookie year and there's an argument to be made that Parson's wouldn't have seen the same success in Atlanta as he has in Dallas surrounded by superior talent.

Sooo we're complaining about our running game of all things, and TE who wasn't good here that we didn't have money for.

Did I get that right?

Do you even football bro?

He wasn't even good for Ryan, he would have sucked for Mariota. Huntley, CP, and Allgeier were good. There's only one football.

The basis for Shanahans system is to play the system as it is. One could argue that Shanahan overpaid for Lance and Jimmy G then stumbled into Purdy. Parsons I agree with. I'm always defense first, but Pitts broke records as a rookie sooooooo
