Popular Post JD dirtybird21
Alright, I know there's tons of Ridder threads and Mariota threads....and but I'm gonna speak on it in my own thread here. Everyone needs to just sit back and chill for a minute. There shouldn't be any strong opinions formed over Ridder after his first game. Last week, the majority of the fanbase was CLEARLY way overhyping him. I literally read posts of him being the next Mahomes, going to the SB THIS season, Ridder already being that guy...even posters who are very rational for the most part were making posts like "I haven't been this excited since Ryan's first game!" or "I just have this feeling he's going to be a star right away!" I've been on the Ridder train since week 1. But it was never because I thought he was the answer to all the teams problems. It's because I knew Mariota was trash. And he was....and still is. And I don't care that this team was in the playoff hunt and division race. The reality is, Mariota was never going to be the answer....not even this season. The Falcons are in a division race because of luck, not because Mariota was some savior of the team who lead them to success. I wanted to see what Ridder could give us. I wanted to know if he was the answer potentially or not heading in to an offseason where Fontenot will have the most money to spend since taking over this team. It's a pretty important piece of information to have...are we set at QB or not? And YES I believe in Ridder. Yes, I've made posts admiring his leadership, maturity at a young age, and instincts. But let's not forget, he's a 3rd round rookie. And he was for a reason. The fanbase got way hyped IMO for these reasons: 1. Mariota was so bad that we were starved for SOMEONE to save the team with better QB play 2. Ryan's first ever NFL start set a precedent that completely compromised everyone's expectations on what a rookie QB SHOULD look like 3. Brock Purdy, in the same draft class, comes right in and looks like a competent player. My point is, for those of you who thought Ridder was going to come in and light the place up DAY 1, you only have yourselves to blame for that. But on the flip side, if you actually are concerned or done with him already, that's also equally silly. Nobody should have a full opinion of Ridder until the season is over. We should be looking for glimpses...examples are the 4th down pass to London or the 4th quarter completion with the blitzer coming FULL speed at him. Stop thinking about the division title. And instead just focus on Ridder's play. Can he play or not? We don't know yet. In other words, just watch and observe. We'll know by the end of the season if QB needs to be addressed or not. Hopefully not. EddieK, Tribal Chief, Killing Floor and 38 others 21 18

Ridder didn't have that. 3) Purdy is also in Kyle Shanahans system with a slew of talent surrounding him starting with that OL. Not even going to mention their defense. If Atlanta had a defense remotely close to the 49ers, Mariota would probably still be starting Knight of God, blkbigdog35, Jumpin Jehosaphat and 13 others 6
A Dog Named Brian
In my defense I haven’t been that excited to see a QB play since Matty came here. I was encouraged by what I saw yesterday but the jury is definitely still out on whether or not he’s our next guy, hope he keeps trending that way but time will tell. I don't expect us to win the division. It would be nice i suppose. But then turn around and lose in the first round. What's the point? This year is what it is. A year of seeing there is a good foundation for the future here and we should be hopeful for the future. I saw enough yesterday in Ridder to give me hope. It's his first game. I bet things seemed to be moving at warp speed for him. It will slow down and he will be fine. No need top draft a QB. If Mariota was good enough to run with, a second year Ridder should be plenty fine. I'm not worried or mad about the present ..I'm looking forward to the future. because in the end. That's all the Falcons ever give us..am I right? "maybe next year..." Lowndesfalc, PokerSteve and JD dirtybird21

BigDawgMania
I was excited when we drafted him but I never over hyped him or try to say he was the next Patrick Mahomes. He will be ok. I just want people to give him time and not write him off after one game. It was his first start. Pump the brakes on the "we need to draft a QB round one" talk Ive seen from a few on here. raysnill1
I'm over hyping him. I saw enough to say we've found our future QB. He will settle down and AS should know how to get the most out of him the rest of the season. He has the ability to pull off the last 3 games especially since Algeier has decided to go apecrap on defensive players slick0ne, PokerSteve and FalconJim

Folks act like you can't have a good team without a good QB. The Ravens won a SB with Trent Dilfer. The Pats almost went to a SB with Matt Cassel. 49ers have been making due with Jimmy G who is at best a great backup. Flacco had a career revival with the Jets of all places (because they had a good team around him). I'm for taking another QB in the later rounds in 2023 Draft... but not a high pick. We need to build this team up. papachaz, NorthGaBoy, PokerSteve and 2 others 3 1
