EYE TEST: Tyler Allgeier passes, Desmond Ridder fails

Obviously this game is not some definitive performance for either guy or indicative of the rest of their careers, this is just the eye test report on this particular game.

Tyler Allgeier is absolutely the running back of the future. He can run outside, he can run up the middle, he can catch, he can run through people. He’s THE GUY.

Desmond Ridder was Marcus Mariota in a Desmond Ridder uniform. Showed no poise, no deep ball accuracy, and even less ability to create plays when the pocket breaks down.

Incredibly difficult draw to play in New Orleans in your first start against a really good defense, and I fully expect Ridder to look much better going forward, but this was a real bummer of a start for the rookie.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed in Ridder today. I thought he'd at least make one or two throws that would make you say "okay, this guy's got it" but he really struggled. Not ready to write him off - he looked like a 3rd round rookie making his first start, and I wish he would have gotten a chance to finish off that final drive because he made 2 really nice throws to put us in position to at least tie it, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

If he doesn't progress over the next 3 weeks I'm gonna be worried though...

Yeah, I think people are gonna jump on you on this one, but I totally agree. You never said he sucks, is gonna suck, will never be the guy... You just said he had a rough one in his first game, and you aren't wrong in the least.

To be fair, it started with the title. TA has more time spent playing. Maybe:

Eye test: TA with an A, DR with an incomplete

I already regret posting this. I forgot how dumb this board is.

I saw exactly what I expected from a rookie playing his first game today. The fact that we lost by 3 after being down 14-0 to the Stains on the road showed me he hunkered down and corrected a lot of his early mistakes. He had one guy who was a tier 1 wideout and he found him repeatedly and in position to achieve YAC. Did he look great? Nah. Did he show me a lot to be encouraged by? Heck yeah.

Now I can't wait for next week to see if he corrects his mistakes because I saw nothing that disappointed me at all.

Let’s throttle back a tad on Ridder and have some realistic expectations for a rookies first game at the pro level. Ridder also isn’t coming out of a pro-style SEC juggernaut school, he’s coming out of a mid-major school in Cincinnati. Ridder saying the “biggest crowd” he’s played against was at UCF says it all - this kid will need some time and it’s not his fault. One of Ridders biggest “knocks” coming out of college is that he’d lock on his primary WR and would have trouble going through his progressions - boy was that ever on display today. He starred London down the entire game and made some very forceful throws in his direction. But again, this is his first start as a 3rd rounder from a mid-major, not sure what we were expecting. He also missed some basic formational nuances (play-actions to the wrong side primarily), granted he’s a rookie and it’s too early to fairly make an assessment, but this team as of TODAY would have been better with Mariota.

he had a rough game but he played better the more the game went on. he was getting ready to have a game winning drive or a game tying drive hit london on a good throw then he fumbled the ball

I watched every play, first time this season, and not a single word he posted is untrue.

What do you disagree with and back it up.

LOL....back up what is true with any of what he said. The only argument could be for the deep ball accuracy.
