Falcons ERA officially Begins

I hated that the Bucs won vs the Saints BUT....

Ridder starts now.  Everyone gets healthy from the bye week.

You guys really believe the Bucs can beat the 49ers, Browns (with Watson), Panthers, and the Cardinals in Arizona?

I could see the Bucs losing all of those games.

The season starts NOW!

Fate has it at this spot, because we didn't want to throw Ridder in the fire and put the whole time on his back.

Now Ridder can play his game, win the games and we get to see what he has.

I think we are in for a great showing these last 4 games.  9-8 or even 8-9 can win this division.

Falcons vs Saints

Falcons vs Ravens

Falcons vs Cardinals

We can win all of these games.

I don't think the Bucs can win another game.

Falcons vs Bucs, we can win it, if we are healthy

Mark this down.

Falcons win division with Ridder.

Just to hype you up some more

This team will be a whole new energy coming out of the bye week.

I feel like the plan was to get to the bye with Mariota regardless of what was happening and evaluate...if Mariota was playing well, he'd finish the season. 14 weeks in Ridder has been given the chance to acclimate to NFL life, and it's obviously time.

I wish we had considered moving the timeframe up after the 2nd Panthers game and the mini-bye (I believe we'd have won at least 1 of the 2 losses since), but it is what it is...Ridder gives us the best chance to make the playoffs, because with Mariota, our chances are exactly ZERO...

Glad we're keeping expectations for Ridder realistic and remembering the trash defense we're rolling out there

I was told yesterday that the defense has done a good job of holding leads all season and have very little to do with the failure on the season. It's all on the QB.

SO good luck Ridd

Who said that? People are expecting Ridder to be Pat Mahomes and its going to make some people mad lol.

However, as bad as the defense has been this season, the defense has kept the Falcons in games most of the season. By luck or opportune turnovers.

Just now, The Falcon Jedi Knight said:

The Bucs win sealed Mariotta's fate. There's no way you ride out the season with him when the Division title is out of reach. So the Bucs winning is a blessing in disguise, forcing the hand of the coaching staff to make the change.

Why are people saying the division title is out of reach? If the bucs lose 2 games and the Falcons win the next 2 its still possible.

I'm gonna say it now, if Ridder doesn't start then it probably won't happen this season. This is now the most logical time to do it.

1. Mariota has had too many games to sink his ship.

2. AS gave him multiple chances so when he makes the switch the locker room (which likes Mariota) isn't going to go "WTH coach?!?".

3. Bye-week with a bad Saints team we know a lot about.

4. We are out of the playoff run but not "technically out". Meaning, if Ridder takes a nose dive we won't be upset, if Ridder helps us win games we will be happy. The backlash of a move like this has no way of haunting AS at this point.

5. The offense under Mariota has gone as far as AS can take it. Teams (good or bad) aren't scheming against the pass OR the deep ball. They are letting WRs get to the second level to sell out against the run. They now know if you load the box Mariota can't punish you on deep routs. AS has to reverse this if his offense is going to continue to work. Remember teams in the past didn't know what our offense was going to look like in the beginning of the season. Now that they know it's limitations they are taking away what works. I'm not saying Ridder is gonna go all Manning but a few explosive plays in the first half with conviction and defenses HAVE to back off the line of scrimmage. Blitz Ridder and he gets out the pocket throwing on the run and watch how fast they ditch what teams are doing to us now.

6. I think when AS says "Mariota gives us the best chance to win" I don't think it was related to TB losing and being in the playoff hunt. I think he was speaking from a place of a functioning offense. Now that our offense is becoming limited based on adjustments and injuries he as to look at personnel options. Lets face it, AS knows what teams are doing to his offense, and he knows how his offense was being attacked early in the season to now. Wining, losing, playoffs, record, draft are in the back of AS's mind if the offense sputters. Just look at our scoring. We were mostly scoring over 24 points at the start of the season, but in the last 3 out of 4 games I don't think we scored over 20. So AS has to jump start the offense again.

I could go on and on but there are just too many thing that at THIS point demand a change and if AS doesn't make the switch now then either AS made up his mind LONG time ago Ridder was never gonna see the field or Ridder is simply lost and as bad as Mariota is looking ......gulp he's the only realistic option we have.

The one impression I have gotten from AS is that he doesn’t make panic moves. This season has been like card counting. He has his plan he knows what the odds are. He isn’t going deviate because the there is a dip in success or go off script chasing something flashy. He is going to grind the season out and if the  overall numbers come back where he thinks they will he will make a profit. Probably not the biggest profit but definitely a step in the right direction

It honestly wouldn't shock me in the least, if AS keeps Mariota as the starter. He has this far, even when the overwhelming evidence proved that Mariota is/was not the answer. I do not have faith that he will make a change.

With all that being said, some of you are putting WAY too much hope into a rookie. Expecting him to go 4 & 0. Come on guys! That is a tall order for ANYBODY. If a change is made, I hope that he shows promise. That's it! I loved what I saw in the preseason, and by the end of the preseason, I was ready for him to be the guy. I truly believe that if he had been in the whole season, we would be in a better position than we are now, but I also do not consider him a savior. The season is in the dumpster, and I am not sure he can save it at this point.

I have mixed feelings about this thread.

I mean I love the optimism, but at the same time, I'm wary of people who are, shall we say...crazy.

Some of you are crazy.

That's what I was thinking. We need to have "lowered expectations". I mean if you are a Falcon's fan, and you have any expectations at all, you are most likely to be disappointed.Amy Poehler Expectations GIF

Things that have you upset after a game 101. Placing expectations far too high

:tiphat:

this is exactly what has run rampant this season,  started with the post draft euphoria, and just went cray cray rampant. back it up with a few wins over teams that were decimated on the defensive side of the ball, and notch up the crazy even more for a few weeks
