Arthur Smith: Great running game coordinator...

Jury is still out for me regarding his passing offense. Honestly is really hard to tell with such a bad pass blocking oline and such a horrible QB throwing the ball.

As good as this running game is though, if he can get the passing game even to be just middle of the pack, the offense could  be deadly. A serious passing threat would obviously give the running game better chances to succeed. Could be one of the most balanced attacks in the league.

O-line clearly has a ways to go, Ridder looks to have enough potential to get there.

Gotta keep our heads up fellas, better times are coming soon hopefully.

I didn't watch most of today's game. We all know our passing game would benefit from a competent QB but did our oline get whooped on today?

TBH I DVR'd and watched it in an hour. From what I saw today they seemed to hold up ok in pass pro, but it's obviously been a problem through the season as a whole.

One thing for sure (I hope) is next season is year 3 and there will be 0 tolerance for excuses about cap or quarterback. Win or get the Effe out next year. The low bar expectation should be divisional round.

I agree. I don't expect to jump to the most talented roster in the league in a single season. But the lines of what a horrible roster we have will have to stop next year.

With what the landscape of the division will most likely be next season, I think expectations to win the South handily would be fair.

I'm so sick of the 'O-line sucks at pass blocking' narrative. there are literally dozens of passes available that can beat blitzes and our clown shoe of a QB can't throw any of them. heck Smith has had to take fricken screen passes out the playbook. the only real problem with the line right now is Dalman's snaps are still low and defenses don't have to respect Mariota's arm. I honestly am shocked when he completes a pass

It's really not hard to tell though. Grind the all 22 and watch the plays. Receivers are open. Mariota's not seeing it or unable to hit them.

🤙 If Ridder starts the last month of the season maybe positive results in the passing game will start to come with it.

That is one of realities I've questioned this season. Where the f has a quick passing / screen game been? It's like our offense doesn't even try to run it.

We tried it early in the season and Mariota can't make those reads or those throws consistently.

Thank you, I'm starting to feel like I'm taking crazy pills because hardly anybody notices this.

We saw what Smith wants this offense to be the first three weeks.  He dialed it back when Mariota wasn’t able to execute it.  We see receivers open and over thrown left and right.  I’m very optimistic about the offense if we even put an average QB back there.

This big time. Our offense is so, so different to what it started as this year. He started carving out huge chunks of the playbook after the Browns game.

I don’t think our pass blocking is anywhere near as bad as people think. When we call early down pass plays, there’s no pressure and Mariota still makes unforced errors. He doesn’t beat the blitz with his arm. He tries to scramble out of pressure.

With this running game, we shouldn’t have so much trouble passing the ball. We had 25 passing plays, 1 ended as a sack, 1 was a terrible INT, and only 13 were completions. Pass protection was not the problem. I can think of at least 6 incompletions where it was a bad pass with a clean pocket and open receiver.

At this point, I’m starting to feel sorry for Mariota. He’s obviously trying hard, otherwise the team wouldn’t be as supportive of him. It sucks to try so hard and fail. And the coach keeps trotting him out there. It’s like in boxing when you have the guy that’s the warm up fight. The guy that has been KO’d 10+ times, yet still trotting him out there like he belongs in the same ring as world class fighters. His NFC POTW award was like Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson.

the play he got sacked, London was wide open in his direct line of sight

this was on Mariota like it has much of the season. Everybody sees our receivers open except him. Either he doesnt throw it or if he does, its a misfire. i saw twice where London probably would of scored if not a long gain that was either misfired OR he didnt even look that way. It was like that for Pitts most of the year. We blaming Smith but the only thing he is guilty of is trying to by Ridder as much time as possible to learn. Now we figure out if he is worth anything. We going to have money. maybe we bring in Carr or Jackson, **** i would take Huntley. Draft both lines, another pass rusher, another WR and safety.

Yup.  But hey, at least he is mobile and isn’t a noodle armed statue….

Who cares about passing the ball, do you not see we are one of the best rushing teams in NFL?

And why do we have one of the best rushing teams in the NFL?? I got just one word for you, MarcusMariota!

It’s Marcus Mariota! CP, Algeier and Huntley would be nothing without Mariota out there. You bench Mariota now and we no longer have a running game.

At least, after reading posts on TATF for the past 13 weeks, this is the only conclusion one could draw.
