I have never been less hyped for a game than this one.  Thanks Arthur Smith for making this as dull as Mariota's arm.  This team can EASILY be one of the hottest rising teams in the NFL, but Smith wants to play 1 score games and try to win it at the end with a QB that can't win

Are you not paying attention? That's what the whole NFL is this year.

IMO:

1. It's a game we should win. If we have any business sniffing the playoffs we have to beat the Steelers. This team has shown it can fend off top flight QBs, we can fend off Pickett.

2. It will show us what this current team is made of. Can they turn the ship around in the face of adversity?

3. It will likely determine if Mariota starts another game.

For the record, I thought Pickett should have been our first round pick... That is starting to look good.

I think the Steelers are gonna be alright with Pickett. The stats may not show it yet, but to me he's passing the eye test. Pickett looks like a NFL QB. His decisions may be questionable at times (which should get better with experience), but he can make all the throws. I think it would be foolish to believe that this is gonna be an easy win, or even a win period, for the Falcons, and I'm not saying that facetiously "because it's the Falcons." One, because the Steelers are a well-coached team that is gonna play tough regardless of how their season is going and who is on the roster. Two, that kid has given all of the teams he's faced something to think about. If you don't disguise your coverages and play disciplined defense, he will make plays.

Take a look at Dallas and the 49ers.  They are winning games way before its over.  Falcons can be at that level but they keep getting away from what they are good at

Dallas and SF both have outstanding defenses that actually compliment their offenses. For as much as many complain about Mariota and the Falcons offense, it is actually our dreadful defense that keeps this team from doing anything to get us all hyped up for future games. Our defense fails more times than not to make impactful plays, while the opposing D gets gifted turnovers from Mariota and the bunch. It’s a vicious cycle that continues to keep this organization mired in mediocrity.

I feel the same way.

One side item that I will be watching this week with the Steelers coming in is the Heyward brothers.

Both are from Gwinnett, Cameron is DE and Connor is H-Back/TE and both are the son of one of my favorite players of all time, Craig IRONHEAD Heyward.  Ironhead died early at 39 from an enlarged tumor on the brain that wouldnt heal.  He got his nickname as a kid from getting cracked over the head with a pool cue and not flinching.  He was a PROBLEM in the NFC West (where the Falcons and Saints played) in the early 90s.  He was a Heisman finalist and is inducted in the College Football HOF.

I just loved watching the guy play.  He is one of those rare players (maybe Morton Andersen is the other) that played for the Saints & Falcons where both towns still smile when he is brought up. I watched his kids at Peachtree Ridge in Duluth, so it will be cool to see them play at home again.

For those unfamiliar, you can check out Ironhead's "run straight over you" style here (if you cant stomach Saints highlights, jump to 1:41 to see him with the Falcons.)
