So maybe the Falcons have had a HoFer on the roster these past few years?

While all the debate on TATF was over whether Ryan's stats would be enough to get him in, it may end up being Cordarelle Patterson who gets a gold jacket.

Holding an NFL career record that likely won't be broken anytime soon/ever is a big deal. He's already a 4-time All-Pro, with a good chance of getting a 5th nod.

I realize guys don't usually get in just for special teams, but he's also going to end up with a fair amount of all-purpose yards (he's currently 90th all-time, but less than 2000 yards from top-50 with only two active players between him and that spot, which would have him passing multiple HoFers along the way).

He's been a lot of fun to watch.

  1. Cordarrelle Patterson making a Hall of Fame case. There aren't too many true returners in the Pro Football Hall of Fame who didn't do something else at a fairly high level, but Patterson has a pretty strong case. On Sunday, he reached an all-time NFL mark when he returned his ninth career kickoff for a touchdown, a 103-yarder with several good blocks. More than Devin Hester, Josh Cribbs, Mel Gray -- all of them. In fact, it was his seventh career TD of 100-plus yards, per NFL Research. No other NFL player has more than three ever. That's pretty incredible. Plus, Patterson gave the Falcons 52 yards rushing (including a run late where he broke a tackle to prevent a big loss) and had two catches. Some might argue he is their most valuable player. Not bad for a player who is on his fifth NFL team and was considered a semi-bust at one point in his career

CP is on the 2010s All-Decade team and I think everyone who's been All-Decade has eventually made the HOF.

But I don't think returners have ever been put into the HOF solely on their returning accomplishments.

Like Deion Sanders is in because he was a dominant CB. Not because he was one of the best returners in history.

CP may get in like Michael Vick did...  by having a specific accomplishment recognized and getting a display to commemorate it.  Vick did it with a 6 TD (4 passing, 2 rushing), 333 passing yards, and 80 rushing yards effort with the Eagles in 2010.   I can see CP getting a display for breaking the record as well but I doubt a straight up induction.  Special Teamers don't usually make it and unfortunately for CP, outside of his 2 years here, he hasn't been a superstar.
