How far do you think the Falcons could go with Marcus Mariota if they built a really good team around him?

My favorite thing about Marcus Mariota is he's cheap. We will be able to improve our o line, rushing attack, receiving attack and defense a lot next year with Mariota's cap hit.

Even though Mariota isn't a very good passer we are still playing 500 ball with his legs and leadership all while in cap trouble.

So let's say next year we keep Mariota and just take our money and build a solid team around him how far do you think we could go with Mariota?

Could we go far with a mediocre cheap QB like the 49ers did with Jimmy G? Your thoughts?

You basically have to have a top 5 defense to make noise in the playoffs if Mariota is your guy next year. Jimmy G is a better QB with a great defense and still couldn't get it done. That tells you how important QB is in the NFL. I'm good with Mariota at about 4-6 million next year (his cap is 14.5 for next year for now) and letting him compete (actual competition) with Ridder or whoever and at least being a good backup.

Theoretically, we'll have money to add some pieces to the D and improve the team but QB remains biggest sore point.

We would need to move Pitts and possibly London if we kept Mariota. I don’t see how that level of talent can continue to be used primarily as blockers before it starts splitting the team apart. As Pitts and London see their peers flying by them in production, making bowl honors and bonuses,  then their peers sign massive contracts, it is an untenable situation over the long term.

Yeah that's why I don't think Mariota will be the starter next year. I could see him being extended to lower the cap hit and just backing up. He's in an ideal situation right now with AS and can't see him getting many calls from teams to start.

I'm beginning to believe pitts is a little overrated.. he hasn't showed me much.

I really hope he is willing to stay as our backup. He’s be indispensable as a backup and as insurance policy of Ridder is their long term plan.

Did you miss he was 2nd in NFL history his rookie season in receiving yards for a TE when he had a QB who could throw a football accurately ?

2nd in NFL history.

Better than Gronk, Gonzeloz, Ertz,Gates, Newsome, Whitten, Sharpe, Kelce, Graham, Kittle, Waller, Andrew’s…..need I continue?

If Pitts actually had a QB who could hit him in stride, we wouldn't be having this conversation --- just sayin'....
I can almost guarantee he'll be a great player for us, for a LONG time!
