Next Gen observation for Mariota

Recommended Posts

It appears that we still are very much a team in transition.  Arthur doesn't trust Mariota to throw the ball much.  He also understands that although we are competitive, we aren't going to beat a team like the Bengals.  And it's clear either he thinks we have a better chance to win with Mariota, or Des simply isn't ready.  The rollercoaster keeps on rolling.

The most horrible QB I can remember in ATL.  124 total passing yards and 1 pass was for 75 yards.  Horrible, it's Ridder time.

The most horrible is a bit of a stretch I think he’s not that bad I want rubber to play as much as the next man but I feel until the season looks hopeless Marcus is gonna start

Side note……don’t forget the Joey Harrington and Byron leftwich season…we’ve had worse qb play

Dude Ridder can’t be any worse he just can’t i rather we start Ridder and Smith protect him and let him get game experience then Marcus dude been in the league for 8 years now and he being protected that’s what you do with a rookie QB. If we gone do that just start Ridder it’s simple with me

This really sounds like a combination of the cubie and the head coach not trusting each other at all.

You guys are in love with Smash Mouth football but I don't think he trusts his play calling when it comes to throwing the ball.

And judging by last year I can see why. We had Matt Ryan and couldn't crack 4000 yards in 17 games. I think if we see Ridder this year people might not get what they are hoping for out of the pass game.

Average game managers are fine when we have the lead and the running game is working.

Yesterday showed us (and what I've been saying all year) when you have a game like this and you can't pass your way out of a wet paper bag then it's disaster like we saw yesterday.

Rldder needs to get his shot sooner rather than later. For all you doubters who don't want to throw him to the fire, maybe you know something the other half us don't know? Maybe AS knows he isn't, but we need to see because maybe we will need to draft another QB in 23' and I hope that isn't the case.

Ever since Mariota blew the game week 1, AS has not allowed him to do much outside of when we are forced to pass (like the 4th quarter of the Rams, Bucs). We will just run, run and run some more & honestly I can't say I blame him. Mariota has about the same level of accuracy as a child blindfolded trying to hit a piñata.

The blueprint has been written... Get out to a lead and make Mariota beat you with his arm. It's a hugely telling sign that we are down 3 scores in the 3rd and Smith doesn't trust Mariota to throw the ball. Defenses are basically playing a condensed field of 20 yards. We either need to let him try to push it a bit or, get Ridder a shot. Down 18 in the 3rd and you don't throw a single pass over 15 yards? That's pretty telling...

I've heard people comparing this situation to Smith/Mahomes in KC, but they gotta realize that Alex Smith was literally having the best season of his career throwing the football. The Chiefs were 9-6... Smith had over 4000 yards and a 26/5 TD to int ratio.

It would be different if it wasn't crystal clear that the passing game is being held back either by a lack of trust or a lack of ability.

It "works" if the defense can keep you in the game, but going down 2 scores in the NFL should not be a kiss of death.

It's not that "simple". Have you seen Picketts numbers? And what doesn't show on Picketts' numbers is 1 concussion

As much as it's an indictment on Mariota, I think it's just as bad for the Oline. Absolutely atrocious pass blocking

There's definitely blame to go around. OL is improved, but the lack of passing is just as much (or more) to mask the OL weaknesses as it is to mask Mariota's. Y'all see how slow he is working through progressions.

Then he shouldn't be starting.

There is no way AS could have less confidence in Ridder than Mariota with the playcalling we have seen.
