Avery Williams

I'll happily eat crow on this one. I thought he was a total bum last year and wasn't expecting him to even make the roster this year. What changed? Are we blocking better or is Williams just stepping up his game? He looks super confident this year and even showing a burst through tackles. Glad we've got him on our team.

I would say it's the confidence for sure but also the ST are light years better than last year.

I mean, I don't know why you thought that last season but part of the difference is probably he's not a rookie anymore? Fans are way too quick to judge rookies.

I don't know — just didn't feel like he had that "spark" or the threat to take one to the house. Clearly the coaches had faith in him and glad they did. I was also excited about the potential of CP returning punts given his previous experience but clearly he was playing every other position haha so wouldn't have been smart to run him out there for punts.

Avery definitely has that spark this year — He's almost got just as many return yards as last year with 12 less returns.

I definitely tried to throw him out with the bath water. He is making a difference. Guy is a football player.

That's a mouthful you spit out my friend. He is a football player. And on our team full of non marquee players, we are blessed with a lot of football players just like him.

Good amount of posters in PS were wanting him gone. I was saying there's no way he's going anywhere. Coaches love him. I was saying last year how smart he was on returns. This year, he's even more comfortable on returns and even smarter. People underestimate that a lot.

He protects the ball as well.

I might have suggested he would be a better fit elsewhere. Possibly posted he was too small to stay healthy and maybe said he didn't really have the burst to be a big contributor on ST's. So yeah, he's working out great for us, just like I knew he would. 😂

CP has only 1 single punt return in his entire career. His experience is on kick returns, not punts.

Something Marquice Williams was asked, and his answer, makes a lot of sense...

He was asked if the change to RB from CB has helped Avery in his return duties... and his answer, unsurprisingly, was that working as a RB has helped him see the field, his blocks, etc, better, making him a more effective returner...
