Interesting little fact that I wasn’t aware of.

Incredible!  I’ll take it. Man, we used to get gashed in the run.  But they’ve been playing a ton better.

In terms of off season resources, very little was invested in the lines this spring.

It isn’t necessarily the investment in the D line that has lead to this stat. The greatest reason we have a top 10 run defense is due to us having a ball control offense.

By running the ball, we control TOP and force other teams to abandon their running games.

Amen, the trenches on both sides have been paid attention to.

And, effectively so. This team may be special for the next few years.

Very little was invested anywhere.

Good point.

Last year falcons had (IMO) the least talented team in NFL and still wins 7 games. This season we are playing .500 ball with still a lower tier NFL team talent-wise.

We had an upper-tier talented team for period 2018-2020 yet played well below .500.

Coaching matters.

Draft picks are also an investment. And none of the high ones were used on the lines.

Imagine the hubris of a coach coming in and trading the biggest offensive weapon you have out of the gate, and then going on to win 7 games after the 2nd best offensive weapon you have decided to take most of the year off and then gets suspended.  Then imagine this same dude saying "I'm going to trade the HOF QB who is the only real reason this team has been in anything the last several years" and roll with a journeyman QB who hasn't seen a good season in quite a while now.

And then the SOB goes out and wins with THAT roster.

Arthur Smith is building a team.  Football is the ultimate team sport.

I feel like that depends heavily on what you consider "the lines." We invested a 3rd last year (Mayfield), then a 2nd and 3rd this year on Ebiketie and Malone (both pass rushers).

And regarding cap, we also spent by far the most money in the offseason on extensions for Matthews and Jarrett, two foundational members of lines on either side of the ball. Our two biggest cap hits are on the lines. And I'd be willing to bet a huge chunk of our resources (both cap-wise and draftwise) will go to the lines next year too. It's clear what TF and AS prioritize imho.

Absolutely. No one is bigger than the team, period. That's the culture being cultivated.

There's a lot to be said of harnessing the talents of what you have, place them in a scheme that works and finally seeing the fruition of this labor.

No one and I mean no one saw this coming. AS has a vision and a mold for this team and he is following it...and it's working.

I feel like an 8 year old on Christmas morning watching the Falcons now on Sundays.
