Braves weren't going near that contract offer. Love me some Dansby but that is just too much money and he wasn't gonna take a big enough discount to stay. Bully for Dansby. Good for him. mookie3127
I've never been huge on Swanson. Great defensively but his streaky offense is the equivalent of Smith and Jansen closing. May his career go the way of Heyward's.

The OF market this year wasn't great. AA had said he had the pieces to make a big trade but he did that for Murphy. Unless he's trading for someone lesser like a Crawford I'm not sure where else we could look.

I have no idea what he could do but he needs to do something. Can't go into the year with LF and SS how it is. I also assume that Tromp will be taking up a roster spot as well. That is why the Murphy trade still doesn't make sense to me. If they Braves addressed LF or SS in the trade then that would have made sense. Giving up valuable trade chips to upgrade a position that was already solid while ignoring those 2 important positions is a head scratcher Malachore and Jimsmusic™

Unknøwn
Saw someone speculating that what if the Braves built a package around Grissom for Reynolds and then signed Elvis Andrus to just play defense and bat 9th. That would be something but I doubt it happens.

Braves weren't going anywhere near $25M a year It’s hard to turn that down, Braves weren’t and probably SHOULDN’T have match that deal. I like Swanson A LOT but he has longer stretches of being off, not on. Which makes this contract VERY dangerous to make! But I guess this is what you get in a No Cap league. I like Dansby and was fine at $100M but $25M a year for a guy that's a career .255 with a .730 OPS is a hard pass. His best attribute is his defense, which is great but how will that be looking when he's 35? He deserved to be paid but that's a big reach. I thought he May have turned the corner late last year when he started playing like he did at Vandy in the Pros, but the old Pro Dansby showed up in the post season again. I just see him being a streaky player and that does not make him a 25M a year guy. But hey, I can’t fault the man for taking it, I know I would! Especially after I already got my ring. Some teams are betting that shortstops who play high-level defense will be worth more under the new rules.

Funny, we are simply going back to the way baseball USE TO be played and they value that to that degree. but maybe it will. I just know that it we have a young guy that might be better anyways. We shall see.
