Shouldn't Smith be concerned with McGary? When did he become untouchable? There's no sacred cows right? Remember?

You say there was a ton of competition then you contradict that by saying if Smith was concerned with McGary they would have brought in other people to compete. That is stupid. This is exactly what I'm saying about Smith's comment. It completely contradicts the no sacred cows and everyone is competing.

I get people wanting to be all over coach Smith's jock strap when he's saying rah rah stuff about competition. I don't get how these people continue to do so when the guy blatantly contradicts that by saying he's not competing. If he's not competing they aren't trying. You can't justify that no matter how hard you try.

That's a contradiction only if you're purposely not understanding the point.

Also Smith is like the least rah rah coach I've ever seen. It's becoming pretty obvious that you just have some personal thing against him, and that makes it pretty much pointless to talk with you about this.

McGary has stunk it up for 3 years now. So much they declined his 5th year option.

I wouldn't say he stunk it up. He's been very inconsistent. He's played well at times and a total disaster at times. He's still young and OLinemen sometimes take time to develop. He's had health issues every year also and really hasn't helped his development. Just because they declined his 5th year option, doesn't mean he won't still become a better lineman. Mcgary's worst day wasn't as bad as Mayfield's best day. Now Mayfield stunk it up, there was no good from him, but that doesn't mean Mayfield won't still become a good lineman.

As bad as you have convinced yourself that Mcgary is, he's still be best RT on this team right now.

I would expect Smith to be a man of his word and stick with McGary or not make such a stupid comment in the first place. That's been my point this entire time.

His word is that edwonu is not competing with mcgary for a starter role. Thus, he is sticking to both his word and mcgary. Duh

Man you act like you know every angle of this team and exactly what Smith is doing and you're basing it all off of like two press conferences.

Just because he didn't tell you the plan doesn't mean there is not one.

Like how are you calling McGary a sacred cow when they already declined his fifth year option?

You didn't catch anyone in a contradiction, you're just finding holes in interviews that quite frankly don't mean a whole lot.

Quit patting yourself on the back.

A contradiction is a contradiction. You're going full circle here. Nice try though.

My point is and has always been this. AS contradicted himself with the statement. The other posters on here might want to twist it all to fit whatever homer agenda they want. Facts are facts.

I don't know where the mental block is. That guy just walked in the building, has done nothing to make anyone think he's better and McGary has done nothing to label him as bad this season. He's a young and developing player. He is your starting right tackle. That's not gonna change any time soon. You sound like you just hate McGary for no reason and just want him replaced, even if it hurts the team. You are creating assumptions in your mind and expecting a result based off of that. Arthur just stated the fact that he's not competing for RT. He thinks It's Mcgary's job to lose and he has zero reason to question that. Smith also didn't say that Mcgary was the starting RT from now until he retires.

I don't get why you people are so defensive that I pointed out AS contradicting himself. If I didn't know any better I'd say you were all his wives.

Cool. So no matter how bad a player is (Example: Mayfield last season) let's keep them in there because they earned the spot by being there longer. Brilliant!!!

Who’s even saying that? Smith was merely correcting what was reported. McGary is the starter because he won his spot. They aren’t going to throw someone new in there   that’s hasn’t practiced with the team.

If he's not competing then what is he there for?

Dumb comment to make. Ok we signed you but remember. You are a backup. If McGary struggles you aren't in a competition with him. He will still play.

You're moving the goal posts with this post. Saying that he wasn't brought in to compete for McGary's job, could mean a lot of things. One very obvious one is that it isn't really reasonable to think he is going to unseat him when we have our 1st game next week. Now, if McGary plays poorly, gets nicked up, etc, then the situation changes.

I must be honest that I am not the biggest AS fan, and I am still reserved in my belief in his ability to get this team over the hump. However, I am willing to give the guy a shot, and look through reasonable glasses. You seem like you have an agenda though.
