Summer 2022 UGA Recruiting Thread

Last year, A&M brings in the greatest recruiting class known to mankind. A quarter into this season, they aren't even in the Top 20. A&M will never run out of money, so what gives? Are they just waiting to be the last bidder on the Price Is Right? Or is it something else?

Keep an eye in December.. It will be flipmas all over the place and team's like a&m will grab a lot of guys (not giving other teams time to counter their offers).

Does UGA have the pockets to compete in the NIL era?

It's not about the pockets, it's about a difference in philosophy. Kirby doesn't believe in rewarding big money to players that haven't even played a down for us yet, except in rare situations.

UGA is directing their NIL dollars to existing players that have earned it, and retaining players that are possibly looking to transfer out.

Giving big money to unproven players while proven players don't have it yet would be a sure-fire way to destroy the locker room.

We've lost a handful of commitments already this year due to that NIL strategy. Hykeem Williams being the latest. So time will tell if it's the best strategy.

Kirby's strategy seems like a good strategy for today's UGA team and for next 2 years but if recruiting starts dipping and ATM and other teams start rising, you know Kirby will flip strategies.   Personally, I hope his current strategy works as it seems ridiculous to pay high school players before you know if they can handle the next level - but that's reality right now.

Other college programs that are desperate to get to the upper level are going to overpay - or pay/gamble on these top kids with the hopes of the big payoff 2 and 3 years later..

It’s been great picking up top recruits year in and year out! Can’t wait to see how we trend over the next few years.

We are going to land some amazing defensive players.. even more than what we have now and I honestly believe we will have the #1 class in the nation when it comes to how they fit into our schemes.  I am serious I think this class will be the best in the nation.. wait til you see who we add on defense.

Gonna be the best defensive class for sure, maybe ever. But overall, the lack of a QB and no top shelf OLs will drag the grade down on the offensive side.

BTW to those that might not have heard, we've turned our attention at QB in 2024 to Ryan Puglisi. Our staff apparently has him rated over Julian Sayin and Jadyn Davis, so look for a commitment within the next few months from Pug.

Also, barring major growth from other QBs on the roster, look for Gunner to be the starting QB next season.
