Carter
Are we sure Fickell is leaving Cincinnati? They just got accepted to the Big 12 and he is doing a pretty great job there, whereas he got a raw deal at Ohio State following up the sweater vest after years of paying his dues. He could have that chip on his shoulder just to prove them wrong. I mean they're not even in the Big 12 yet and he's about to have his team in the playoff lol Cincinnati has stepped up spending a ton also. Not to suggest they are on the same level as some of these other jobs of course. But he's not working for peanuts nor coaching a bunch of scrubs. They won't win a national title this year but getting into the playoff would be a huge accomplishment.

Unknøwn
Honestly I think Matt Campbell or Fickell will end up at Notre Dame. Campbell would make a lot of sense.

Many of the higher end recruits won't qualify or don't want the classroom workload. Kelly has done a great job remaking that roster with higher quality players after getting blown out by SEC teams though and has spoken on that numerous times. He made a point to target more physical players, more SEC-caliber players. He has shown he can recruit the SEC talent pool too. Like I said though, I wonder about how he will fit in at LSU. Les Miles and Ed Orgeron won national titles at LSU... that should say everything about how easy it is for LSU to win one every now and then lol. I would rate Brian Kelly as a far better head coach than either of those guys. VTCrunkler

They mentioned LSU and miles and Ogeron there as proof positive you don’t need to be a great coach to win there. I don’t think he’s a cultural fit at LSU. But imagine what he can do with that infrastructure and recruiting.
Unknøwn
The reported deal for Kelly is 10 years, $100M. Word is he'll earn well over $100M if he triggers incentives.
SacFalcFan
So with all of this, Florida’s Napier hire gets overwhelmed by the USC and LSU news. Florida gets little mention or wave in the news cycle and no first mover advantage. Florida makes a “decent” hire while the other schools make bolder ones. And ND will likely target Fickel, a better hire than Napier. So far IMO the least impressive hire is Floridas.. I see the gators though spinning this that napier is their kirby.. huh? Let him actually win on the P5 level before comparing him to a coach like Kirby who has already played for 1 natty, won the SEC as coach, won nattys as a DC, and has an undefeated season. I love the Kelly hire.. Great home run hire for Woodward and LSU. I also love the USC hiring of Riley.. one of the best coaches in the nation... Fickel will be a great hire as well for Notre Dame and frankly I thought Florida should have went all in on Fickell.. Oklahoma should be Venerables, but it sounds like Dabo is trying to yabba dabba doo him to stay in Clemson.. Dabo cancelled his trip to go up to kansas and talk with Venerables. The other hires are definitely more impressive. Big splashes, which Napier is not. But UF isn’t really in an attractive position either, that roster won’t be challenging for the division for 2-3 more years and those are going to be long seasons imo. I’m impressed with LSU snatching away Brian Kelly. I thought they had screwed the pooch, I was wrong. They sure are paying for it though. It’s funny to poke at Lincoln Riley running from the SEC, but Riley to USC is actually insane. He should do very well out there. Will be interesting to see what Oklahoma and Notre Dame do now. Heupel apparently has zero interest in the OU job. Might be Venables time if he’s ready to move on from Clemson, but we’ll see. He has been turning down offers for years but it sounds like it might be different this time. I don’t think Fickell would have been a better hire for UF than Napier btw. Napier has a lot to prove of course while Fickell is possibly fielding a playoff team, but I think he’s a better fit for UF. Solid SEC experience and a strong recruiter. Fickell has been coaching in Ohio since 1999. Bigger name, more proven, but probably not a better fit imo

I feel bad for the families he was meeting yesterday. He was on the road recruiting for ND when he accepted the LSU job. One ND assistant said he literally walked out a kids front door and got an alert on his phone from a sports app that said Brian Kelly agrees to deal with LSU. Said he felt like an ******* because he was just pitching the kids family on ND and Kelly 2 minutes ago

Last year's offense lost: A WR that was also a dynamic punt returner (first round pick) A WR that won the Heisman (first round pick) A QB that broke the passer rating record (first round pick) A RB that had nearly 1500 yards and 16 TDs (first round pick) The starting LT (first round pick) The starting C (second round pick) The starting LG (sixth round pick) That's 7 starters gone in all and 6 of them went in the first 2 rounds. The offense was going to drop off. Injuries at RB (only one scholarship RB is healthy right now and he was in a major car accident around a year ago) and also poor OL play haven't helped BoB, but it's still been rough. Play calling has been too vanilla at times. The biggest issue has been the OL though. VTCrunkler
