DOB said he can't confirm but he's heard the hangup on Freeman is years. He said he's heard Freddie wants 6 and the Braves are offering 5 years.

This article from Bob Nightengale said Freeman turned down a 5/$130m contract. He may want the current projected 6/$156m contract instead.

33 million?

Freddie is great but that is alot for a guy who will be 38 by the end of it.

Exactly, for a guy who says he wants to stay he sure is trying to cripple the payroll.

With ownership like the Braves there's no way this team could sustain a contract like that for a guy who will likely not produce the last 2 years of it.

If it were for like 2 or 3 years max sure.

But 33 mil  a year for 6 years is a stretch.... especially if we want to keep Dansby, Fried and others. Riley will be due to be paid before that is up.

Maybe they can front load the **** out of it and make the last 4 years more team friendly???

IMO it'd be 6 years 180 million. His leadership and locker room culture are just too valuable to let him walk. With the DH rule potentially becoming into a reality, Freddie will still wield a reliable bat, and his postseason success was downright stellar. Plus, I got a feeling we're going to contend for championships in near future and if the fanbase is of any indication, this contract may look like a perfect marriage for Freddie and Atlanta when we rake in cash.

I'm hoping the ownership and front office go all in over the next few years and try to win multiple titles. I think this core has a shot to win at least 1-2 more titles before they have to break up.
