I highly doubt AA has been told he can go over the tax I’m not sure that number is correct. Regardless, it’s good to even have that as part of the discussion. Even adding in Jansen into the Spotrac figure, they’d still only be around $183m.

Apparently "player benefits" in contracts count towards luxury tax. Braves have $16M of that on the books. They estimated $42M on arbitration. Could be higher than Sporttrac

The difference in the two is the arbitration-eligible totals like you said.
CrimsonFalcon
They'll still go for a starting pitcher. Not sure who's still available, but we'll get someone...1 or 2 years.

What's left on the market is pretty awful, and almost certainly not better than trying the young guys we already have. That makes the trade market pretty expensive, and we're running low on bullets in the farm. I think if we add any more it will be position player and maybe another depth bullpen piece or two. Malachore
I know the Braves are still linked to Soler but where would he fit? Especially since Ronnie is expected back late April. Duvall can't be the platoon guy unless they would put Eddie in CF.

Would imagine it will be something like (just with OF): Rosario LF, Duvall CF, Soler RF, Ozuna DH Once Acuna is back, then Ozuna and Rosario likely platoon in left, with Ronald eventually taking over in center and move Duvall/Rosario to the natural platoon. If Soler is here, imagine he is permanently in RF. Malachore and ATL Fan in the DMV
For the A
I use Cot’s for the payroll figures, but I think they are all get the numbers from the same source. At the bottom in the notes section is stated that the $16 million for bonuses is included. They have the Braves with $31 million under CBT https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xzd88I7vEWyqOIPGSDbtYlYjzCtUy24Vx7biuG5Eshc/htmlview#gid=1520401900 Edited March 19, 2022 by For the A

Yeah , there would be a lot jam if he were to come back but....they would make it work. It would allow Acuna to ease back in the rotation easier and then when he is healthy it just adds depth and power to the bench. It is a bit of a luxury but I am here for it. Unknøwn
Braves have signed Phil Gosselin to a minor league deal. Gosselin will be much needed IF depth. He can play 1B/2B/3B and a little OF. You may remember he started his career with Atlanta and was a bench bat for a couple of seasons before being traded to Arizona for Touki. He hit .261 in 373 ABs an Angel last year
Unknøwn
DOB said the Braves checked in on Kimbrel before signing Jansen. AA liked that Jansen has been more consistent in recent seasons and I'm sure the $16M is a better price to pay compared to paying Kimbrel and the White Sox in prospects. ATL Fan in the DMV
I'll say on record that I love AA's moves so far this offseason - except Jansen. I'm not fundamentally opposed to him, but that's a s*ton of money for one reliever, even for one year. He's no doubt good, but man alive is that a lot. I will say this though, our bullpen will be shutdown if those guys come close to the duplicating their dominance this past postseason. And if our starter can only go 5 innings, we got the hosses to slam the door if we have a lead. If we can bring back Soler, I think we'd have to be the favorites, on paper, to win it all. It's a design for October baseball. As we witnessed, a lethal bullpen is how you win a title in this day and age. You pay him the big bucks and expect it to pay off in October. Unknøwn
The SP market is pretty sad now that Greinke is in KC. Michael Pineda is probably the best arm left and he hasn't been healthy for a full year in 6 seasons.
