World Series Champs Off-season 2021-2022

For the A

Recommended Posts

If my brief research and math is correct Freeman will get $9-10 million more than what Braves offered.

Playing for ATL tax rate is 7.5%
5 years at $140 - taxes is $129-130

Playing for LAD tax rate is 14%
$167 - $57 (deferred) - taxes is $90

$57 (deferred) - taxes is $49

LAD total is $139

** All amounts are millions

Considering it was a contact negotiation and not an episode of The Bachelor, I think AA's approach was fine.

Meh. We should treat human beings like human beings, and you know it.

People want to vilify Freddie, but he deserved better than he got from us at the end.

It could be worse. Seattle cut Bobby Wagner without talking to him. Doesn't make it right, though.

I do think McGuirk could have made AA’s job a lot easier because I can almost guarantee no good offer was made because of the 2020 COVID season. But, I’ll say that Freddie’s agent, and by proxy Freddie himself, overplayed his hand by giving that ultimatum. At that point, AA didn’t owe anything to Freddie. Guy has a job to do and mouths to feed.

I don't want to vilify Freddie Freeman in the slightest. I wish he had re-signed. But he's also an adult with his own agency (and agent for that matter). The Braves made him a credible offer. He didn't even have to take it -- but he could have told his agent "I want to return to Atlanta, get the best deal with them that you can", but he didn't do that. Instead his agent backed AA into a corner, and few people respond well to that. Anthopolous is also a human being, does that not count if he's working for a corporation you don't like?

He'll be fine. The Braves will be fine. Apparently Kenley Jensen will be fine too, this is a more shocking move to me than the Olson trade. Wow.

Yeah, I'm genuinely angry that Close had the audacity to give Atlanta a one-hour window on accepting a take it or leave it offer. Nobody's disputing that happened, and it's the kind of the line in sand that is guaranteed to gain a negative reaction.

Contrast that to Abbott's agent, who is only worried about his client's happiness. That's how the system should work.

We'll all be fine, and we'll all get over it. The heartbreak is fresh, though. Freddie in a Dodgers jersey is just...I have no words.
