Perfect guy to lead and be the face of your franchise. He also has the personality that will keep him from folding in the big lights of those 2 major markets. I really don't think Freddie is going to be back. We should have signed him to an extension 2 years ago. It be a bigger cause for concern if it were the actually money and not the years. There are plenty of ways to find that extra year that works for both sides if it really comes down to it. I'd probably be talking to OAK about Matt Olson just in case though. youngbloodz, ATL Fan in the DMV, Boise Falcon Fan and 1 other

Letting the face of franchise walk just because both sides can’t agree to just ONE year difference after he dedicated 12 years to Braves’ rebuilding is as ludicrous as it sounds. I’m betting that the 6th year is already thrown and they’re just trying to find the right spot of $$$ at the moment.

Guessing this was somewhat like Will Smith's negotiations from two years ago -- make your best offers now or I'll take the QO. Pretty much. NY media saying Syndergaard told teams to have all offers in yesterday so he could pick and take a physical. If he fails he can just take the QO from the Mets. It's going to be as simple as the Yankees, Angels, Dodgers, etc. will offer him way more than the Braves can. That's how FA works, and that is why they shouldn't have ever let him make it to FA. I think he's gone.

But other than that his wife loves it in Atlanta and so does Freddie. If Atlanta comes close to the money I believe he stays. There's no cap in baseball. So, it's different here. You can trade a big contract in baseball without any complications. We couldn't deal overpaid players with immediate bonuses because those still counted against the cap. Julio's contract meant that we paid him the same against the cap this year on the team or traded. The difference was $200k. Not even joking.

Unknøwn
We should have a very healthy payroll though. Nothing like the unlimited money of the Dodgers but more tham enough to field a very good team.
For the A
If it’s just another year holding up the Freeman extension just give him that. But I also can see AA’s side of things. He’s planning for the future deals that Ozzie and Acuna will get in ‘27 and ‘28. Also have Fried, Swanson and Riley futures deals coming up. If only AA can figure out a way to get Ozuna’s deal off the payroll to free up some money.

Liberty's CEO has said it's higher than reported. In 2019, he said it was $83 million and would rise to $113 million by 2028. Oddly, the deal expires in 2027 according to the same dude. So, the $113 million must be an option. Sinclair, which owns the old Fox Sports RSNs, just got busted lying in an earnings report. They apparently only have four MLB teams under contract for next year, none of which is Atlanta. They also don't own streaming rights for any team. So, there are a lot more questions than answers on this subject. MLB seems to be hedging its bets on the possibility that Sinclair collapses or at least has to sell the RSNs it bought from Disney, which in turn got them from Fox. I follow this story pretty closely for one of my gigs and my group's podcast. It's inscrutable because Sinclair is so innately dishonest. For the A
I know absolutely nothing about contract negotiations but I just don’t see why AA and Freeman can’t meet up in person or do a conference call and get this extension done in a few hours. Both parties agree that ATL is where Freeman wants to be.

I'm sure he's been talking to AA, he mentioned they do have phone conversations about the minor leagues and other things. As far as meeting I know from social media that Freddie and his family have left Atlanta for the winter. They went home to California. Unknøwn
Perry Minasian reportedly won the Syndergaard sweepstakes with a detailed plan. Perry flew to NY and had a face to face with him and showed him all the data on how they plan to keep him healthy and what mixes he should use. Syndergaard was very impressed with the plan. Things moved at lightspeed after that

I follow this story pretty closely for one of my gigs and my group's podcast. It's inscrutable because Sinclair is so innately dishonest. So here's what I found from 2020 from Fangraphs. Considering the overall popularity of the Braves and the giant footprint that we have across the southeast we should still be higher than what we are. The renegotiation helped considerably and I'm glad they were able to get something done. That said we also don't own any of our own TV rights where other teams do. Liberty Media could have done us a solid and bought out Fox Sports but we all know how that went. jidady
jidady
Warner really screwed us on the way out. I can't blame Liberty, though. People expected Disney to sell those RSNs for $20 billion. Sinclair paid $9.6 billion, and kindly NBA Commissioner Adam Silver just called them morons for that. Not coincidentally, they're in mortal danger of collapse.
