From the sounds of it, it's your total career WAR that would matter instead of 1 year. Looking at WAR would help guys who are stronger with the glove. The arbitration process typically looks at batting stats more than anything. Having WAR would help those guys who aren't as strong offensively get more value. The union is said to not be thrilled by the offer though.

Can you imagine Austin Riley losing a couple of million dollars because of a difference between UZR vs DRS?

Freddie turns down 5yr $135M, says he’s seeking closer to $200M 6yr there about. Trying to match or beat the Votto deal. As long as Freddie can get around 25-30 WAR those 6 years, it would be worth it

Not if you are losing guys like Riley, Fried, Acuna because of it.

I don't think he gets 200 mil though.

Former Angels GM Billy Eppler has been offered the Mets GM job. Eppler was the GM that acquired Ohtani as well as Justin Upton and Andrelton Simmons. He just never could put a complete roster together in Anaheim. He was in NY before going to LA. He served as scouting director and then assistant GM for Cashman and the Yankees.

And you can guarantee that they will be pushing to have that extended in a few years because they know they goofed.

I wouldn't say goofed. They took the certainty. Look at Soroka, a couple of years ago if he signed for $35M people would have said he was crazy. You just never know what's going to happen.

Yankees reportedly met with Freeman's agent. Dodgers also watching the situation. Braves still viewed as the clear favorite.

How can NYY meet with Freeman’s agent. With Braves giving him a QO I thought Braves were only team that could talk with him/his agent until November 17. I didn’t see anywhere where Freeman rejected the QO

The QO does not give you any exclusive rights. All it does it give you compensation if the players leave. The November 17 deadline is just to accept or reject the offer of 1 year for $18.4M. The only window of exclusive rights is the 5 days following the end of the World Series. In those 5 days nobody can contact you but your current team. Once those 5 days are over you're free to talk and sign with anyone.

Angels and Syndergaard agree to 1 year, $21M.

Mets get a 2nd round pick, they offered Noah the QO.

Perry takes AA's one-year contract strategy to the next level.

Guessing this was somewhat like Will Smith's negotiations from two years ago -- make your best offers now or I'll take the QO.

Mets rotation is suddenly in complete ruin. deGrom was out half the season, Carrasco had an ERA over 6 when healthy. Walker was absolutely terrible after the ASG. He had an ERA over 7 after mid July. That's your top 3 Met starters right now.

Peter Gammons was saying Syndergaard had 3 offers of at least $21M. One was supposedly almost $25M.

If that is what he wants, AA needs to let him walk. With Riley, Acuna, Albies, etc., just sign a middling 1B, and use that money towards acquiring an ace.

I think they compromise at 6 years $162M. Freddie gets 6 years and the Braves save a little money

I don't. I think the Yankees or Dodgers will break the bank for Freddie. Perfect guy to lead and be the face of your franchise. He also has the personality that will keep him from folding in the big lights of those 2 major markets.

I really don't think Freddie is going to be back. We should have signed him to an extension 2 years ago.
