All 22 Review: Cordarrelle "Flashy" Patterson

Recommended Posts

Ryan did not have flashy stats against NYG, but he took what the defense gave with the right reads. Falcons for first 2.5 games were running short routes or deep routes on PA fake with max protection. The offense needed to get creative to beat the zone, and AS answered in a big way against the WFT and NYJ. AS called a great game against WFT, except for the crucial mistake in the 4th quarter with game on the line. Against the NYJ, he stayed aggressive and learnt his lesson.

Who is Patterson? RB? Slot WR? or Wide out?

Patterson seems to be the catalyst in the experiments AS is cooking up. Patterson as a RB is underselling his skills. Patterson is match up nightmare for the defensive Personnel, with out knowing if he is a RB, Slot WR, or WR on the outside. In the last two games, he lined up everywhere and balled out in WFT game with Ridley and Pitts both double teamed.

AS/ Offensive Evolution from the NYG Game:

Patterson in NYG game: AS called the play with Ridley and Pitts running deep, but to same side of the field. Ryan dumped the ball to Patterson for a small gain.

CP 42 Yard TD:

Falcons used a Similar play against the WFT, but added couple of wrinkles. How about Ryan Delivering the pass right before getting knocked down....

Patterson lined up as WR, Ridley Motioned before the snap to right. Pitts lined up on the left.  The safety #31 moved closer to the line as Ridley motioned and Ryan faked the handoff to Mike Davis.

Pitts was covered by Fuller and LB, Ridley by Landon Collins. Patterson was covered by Jackson Cb#23.  Bobby Mccain dropped back as deep safety in the middle. McCain sees Ridley turning towards Ryan, and jumps from the deep middle towards Ridley vacating the deep middle for the "Flashy"

WFT paid the price with safeties not respecting Patterson as a WR.

CP 14 yard TD against WFT:

Flashy lined up wide, one on one with Fuller. Ridley and Pitts both doubled by a LB and Safety. Ryan threw a dime on the fade route to Patterson who boxed out the defender with his size.

Flashy in Slot (Setting up the 2 yard TD by Pitts)

The LB #56 bites the PA fake and Patterson runs past him. Ryan splits the zone with a high back shoulder throw over LB #57, where only Patterson can grab.

Flashy in Screen Game:

AS barely called any screens in first 3 games. However, he called few from the WFT game.

Easy first down against WFT.

Screen on 3rd and short which setup the Final Mike Davis TD against NYJ.

The "Flashy" #84 is a matchup nightmare for getting the right personnel in the game with out knowing where he will line up. Hopefully with Ridley coming back, CP will get more chances when teams double Pitts and Ridley.
