I get that and I appreciate that.... I truly do but he was going Gaga over the Padres all freaking game.

And if the Braves would have done a better job of cashing in on multiple situations then this game is a blowout.

But to hear him tell it the Padres just totally outplayed the Braves and the Braves just got lucky

I feel like he tries to do it so much that he becomes anti Braves.  I felt that way last year in the playoffs too.  It kind of was true what he was saying though, Braves took advantage of Padres mistakes. He didn’t have to say the Padres outplayed the Braves, they clearly didn’t.  The Braves didn’t make mistakes like they did and that’s part of the game.

I personally think Smoltz is still bitter that his career didn’t end with the Braves. Notice how former players have no problem coming back and doing things with the Braves but when’s the last time Smoltz did it?

Remember Smoltz pitched in 2009 but the Braves made no effort to keep him following the 2008 season. Tom Glavine retired with Smoltz decided to go to the Red Sox and then during the season he ended up with the Cardinals. Just seems like he goes overboard and it just seems like there’s something more below the surface.

Like you mentioned tonight, he went out of his way to discredit the Braves comebacks tonight. But the PBP (Don Orsilo) does Padres games when he’s not doing stuff for Fox was very complimentary of the Braves. Just another reason I love listening to him and Mark Grant on the Padres games. They’re not total homers. If something favors the Padres but they know it’s wrong they’ll mention it’s a break for the Padres. They give credit to opponents when it’s due.

I would LOVE to have heard his contrived rationale for that. It's just BS. They should have gone to it yesterday.

Maybe because his buddies Glav and Maddux wouldn’t have had quite the career they had without favorable corner calls due to their star status?

That win last night feels season defining. They badly needed it to keep some distance and the offense just refused to lose. Great job by the bats to win it and the bullpen for keeping it doable.

“It was a huge win, especially considering the fact that it felt like we were playing from behind the entire game,” Soler said through a translator. “We kept overcoming the deficits and battling back. The energy was sky-high, honestly like I’ve never seen it before. I mean, we were working our way back to the clubhouse and people were hooting and hollering and screaming. It was a big win.”

The comment that AA signing Donaldson set back Riley's development was weird, wrong, and made me wonder if Smoltz has some sort of beef with AA.

I missed the comments, but did he use it to pivot into his comments about mishandling Tatis this year by putting him in the outfield?

I really don't understand this line of thought when every game is must win right now.

This spot is Touki/Smyly. Touki is away from the team dealing with the death of his father. Nobody trust Smyly to start games right now. So it's either Chavez go a couple or 3 and have Smyly do his 1 or 2 turns through or call up a rookie to fly cross country and take the start.

This is the 2nd time, right?

Touki been gone that long?

He was still here and was in the bullpen that day but he left to go back home the day after. Judging by his Instagram and social media posts he was extremely close with his father.

Ah ok makes sense then, thought this was the 2nd time they did this.

As bad as Minter has been this year I'd have given him a chance to open again.

This is not even true. This is a lie. Not coming at you personally man, but whomever this person is tweeting about Melancon is lying. Melancon has clearly stated he wanted to finish his career close to home.

There was an article by one of the big named writers back months ago where Melancon was quoted as saying what's in the tweet.

It is the 2nd time they've used this opener and it worked well against the Diamondbacks. Chavez and Smyly combined for 4 2/3 IP and gave up only 1 run. Braves won 6-1.

I think it was a combination. He had just built a house on the beach just across the border and he liked the Padres chances.
