VNlanta
Can't have the closer have an era close to 4. Either he needs to get it below 3 or they need to change closer before it's too late Edited August 28, 2021 by vietlanta Jimsmusic™

tl;dr
Good win against a very good team. Thankfully the Phillies and Mets both suck (although Philly could still win tonight)

Malachore
What is it going to take for Snit's stupid *** to stop using Smith in high leverage situations. Jimsmusic™ and ATL Fan in the DMV
AUTiger7222
Jean Segura does it. Phillies win 7-6. Absolutely dreadful pitch sequence by the Diamondbacks there. Everything was a slider down and away or a high fastball. Not once did they go inside and keep him honest. Absolutely dreadful.

It's gonna take him getting ripped in the media. But since the media thinks Smith is fine "only 4 blown saves!!" there will be no changes made. The only time Snit makes big changes is after the media rips him. Happened a couple years ago when he hit Acuna clean up and it wasn't working. Media ripped him and next game Acuna was back hitting lead off. Last month Brian Jordan ripped him for hitting Dansby 2nd. Next game Dansby was back in the 5th spot. AUTiger7222
The Braves are 8 games behind the Brewers. I really hope they can catch and pass the Brewers. But that's an extremely tough hill to climb. It's not the end of the world though, Braves have played really good baseball on the road this year. Might be for the best. AUTiger7222
I was extremely disappointed on trade deadline day when 4 PM ET rolled by the Braves big addictions were Adam Duvall and Eddie Rosario. Then about 30-45 after news came out about the Jorge Soler move and I jumped for joy!! Absolutely pumped me up!! Please keep him in the ATL!! jidady and ATL Fan in the DMV 1

Hard to believe it will at this level for a guy with basically one good year who was languishing in KC this year before we acquired from the Goodwill store. I remember Barve Nation (and the team itself) was giddy over Matt Adams hot run after we acquired him in Freddie’s absence to the point of engaging in the great “Freddie At 3rd Base” experiment. And then Ozuna and his great short season in 2020. I prefer to let the rest of the season play out before we throw the kitchen sink at him. I really just think we’ve caught some lightning in a bottle where everything has just clicked for the moment. But we do have Acuna, an established superstar, coming back but I have to admit Soler, Joc, and Duvall are better than any other of the failed prospect options we have right now. Ghosts of Glanville
If I hear Chip Carey talk up ‘the advantages of having a left handed closer’ one more time I’m going to melt down my TV. Will Smith is incredibly vulnerable to right handed power. I haven’t seen the numbers but I have to imagine his OPS vs righties isn’t good. That a person can announce every frikkin Braves game and not see the obvious problem just floors me. Rich Rod for closer!!! Enough is enough AUTiger7222

LH hit for a higher average at .214 compared to .212 but as you say, hes allowed 6 of his 9 HR to righties.

It’s the walks and hit batsmen that have killed him before those big hits this year. Also while the batting average against is down, it seems the outs are usually squared up and hard hit, but defense is making the play thankfully. His Ks are surprisingly up too so he’s fooling people with pitch selection, I think his precision is down though and too many mistakes get too much of the plate. But he hasn't been great. The question will be will that be good enough in the playoffs? It is easy to say no it won't be but there is a recent history of good but not great relievers being good enough. Jansen last year gave the Dodgers some of the same heart attacks as Smith has for the Braves And the Nationals in 2019 were meh on the back end.
