AUTiger7222
Jankowski walks. That puts runners at the corners with 2 away. Alec Bohm now up against Tyler Clippard.
AUTiger7222
On an 0-2 pitch Tyler Clippard overcooks a slider and it's a wild pitch to score Brad Miller from 3rd. Travis Jankowski moves up to 2nd as the tying run.

AUTiger7222
Best records in August. Giants = 13-3 (.813) Braves = 12-3 (.800) Dodgers = 11-3 (.786) Yankees = 13-4 (.765) Brewers = 11-4 (.733) Rays = 10-5 (.667) ATL Fan in the DMV
Unknøwn
That all NL West WC looks questionable. Reds are now 1.5 back of SD. Braves would be 2 back in the WC hunt. Phillies are 4.5 out of the WC.
Unknøwn
DOB talked about why Matzek isn't a closer candidate. Basically boiled down to not messing with him mentally. For a guy thats struggled and nearly retired from the yips they don't want to put that pressure on him. The role he's in now works and they pretty much determined its not worth potentially breaking him.

Yeah, that was also part of it. Snitker likes having him and Rodriguez available at any moment

ATL Fan in the DMV
Without looking - Who has the second highest OPS on the team? Now, who has the highest WAR on the team? Hint: They are the same person. if you picked Austin Riley: .294/.371/.533 (.903 OPS - 14th in MLB) 22 2B, 26 HR, 73 RBI 3.8 WAR Then you have already realized how awesome he's been for us this year (13 errors aside). I still can't believe that Snitker used his best reliever for the 6th inning last night when the game was on the line. That's a move he doesn't make last year nor the first 3 months this year. He's done a complete 180 on his bullpen usage. It's like he's finally fully brought in to the analytics and the Braves are reaping the benefits. I think this is what Snitker was saying without really saying it the other night when asked about using Rodriguez as the closer. Basically he likes being able to deploy him as needed, and that's the correct strategy. AUTiger7222

It's not a matter of "learning", he's been a competent reliever for 8 seasons. His stuff is just starting to back up on him now, and his command isn't quite as sharp as it used to be in his heyday with the Giants. He'll likely go on being a competent reliever for several more seasons, but it seems likely that his days of being an elite high-leverage fireman are over. But who knows, relievers are funny. Small tweeks can have huge benefits if he can find the right ones. ATLBrave

But the guy we got last night is plenty good enough. It’s just a matter of confidence. K26dp
