I doubt he is too but the talking points he just used is the same one everyone uses to defend Duvall. Homeruns. OMG!! I get so freaking sick of hearing about homeruns.

Chicks dig the long ball?

Did you know that hitting a home run automatically scores all of the runs possible given the game state at the time of the home run?

And that scoring runs is necessary to win baseball games?

And that having several players in the line-up who can regularly hit home runs is a good thing if the objective is winning baseball games?

Player A hits .275/.350/.450 with 15 homeruns and 35 doubles

Player B hits .230/.300/.450 with 25 homeruns and 25 doubles

Which one is more valuable and leads his team to scoring more runs overall through the course of the season?

Likely Player A. That doesn't mean Player B is a bum.

Ok, IMO player B is a bum, especially when the OBP is 25 points lower than .300. Like I said, we're not gonna agree on this. I've done admitted that I absolutely despise players like Duvall and seeing everyone act so gitty about him just pisses me off cause I wanna see the Braves win a World Series and you don't win World Series with players like Duvall in the starting lineup every single game.

It's OK for people to like things you don't. Letting go is a sign of maturity.

Since we want to talk about maturity, let me ask you a question. Is it a sign of maturity to tell me I'm wrong because you don't agree with my opinion when I can point to several stats that support my opinion is valid?

Nope. It's a sign that you're wrong.

Finally a credible voice of reason to set things straight.

Ok....The only person here not being mature is you. Thank you for proving my point for me. Instead of disputing all the valid stats I've posted you just call me wrong and then when I don't just "drop it" you question my maturity. I don't understand the way you operate sometimes. I figure someone that is extremely stat oriented as yourself would love to have a discussion based on stats/facts and instead this is the route you go. I'm just at a loss.

If there is a runner on first every time each player gets a double or home run, and assuming the runner scores all the way from first on every double:

Player A has 65 RBIs

Player B has 75 RBIs

Player B produces more runs scored

In baseball, the team that scores more runs wins the game.

Its simple.

Nope. Player A gets on base more and therefore if he's on base more naturally he's gonna score more than Player B. The more runners you get on base the more runs you score. It's the Moneyball approach. It's that simple.

The stats you quoted don't back up your opinion. The stats indicate he's about a league-average hitter, not "one of the worst hitters in baseball". It's not the stats that are wrong, it's simply you.

Would he be better if he got on base more? Of course. He would also be better if he hit more home runs, or more doubles, or stole bases, or played Gold Glove caliber centerfield. He doesn't. But that doesn't mean he's useless.

And you are right that he likely wouldn't start for a World Series team. As you have repeatedly pointed out over the last several months, the Braves aren't a World Series team.
