Will MLB go back to 40 round draft next year?

Possible. The deal for a shortened draft was only 2 years. Its TBD right now

It's expected that the owners will push to shorten the draft permanently in the next CBA. Eliminating the whole advanced rookie/A- level of minor league affiliates mean they don't need as many players.

You'd think that baseball owners would, you know, like baseball.

First reported Braves signing:

11th round pick Adam Shoemaker gets over-slot $480,000 signing bonus ($355,000 against pool). It was expected to be overslot, but that was a little more than I was expecting; Vaughn Grissom got $347,500 in the same spot in 2019. Braves must really like this kid.

Usually it's more than $1000, but yes every team does that. That's why so many picks in the 4-10 range are college seniors.

Thats disgusting. MLB has a lot to fix with that system.

Why would they change it? Owners love it.

Speaking of senior signings, 3rd-rounder LHP Dylan Dodd and 5th-rounder SS Luke Waddell have signed.

Dodd signed for $122,500 against a slot value of $604,800. Waddell signed for $247,500 against a slot value of $333,300. That saves the Braves $396,500, of which $355,000 will go to signing 11th-round Adam Shoemaker.

Considering they signed off on the current system...

They signed off on the current service time system as well but they're looking for changes to be made there too. Just because you agree to something doesn't mean you like it and doesn't want changes done the next time negotiations are opened. Sometimes you agree to things for the greater good. I.e. no strikes/lockouts. But because of what has happened over the last 18 months or so, I don't think the MLBPA is going to be so open to accepting a bad deal for them. I'm fully prepared for a strike, especially since it's well known that the owners weren't operating in good faith last year in trying to have a season.

They agreed to it because they wanted owners to spend more money on veterans than kids just drafted.
