that would be the ideal scenario.

I was 4 when that trade was made so I don't really remember it. But I'm sure I would have been livid at the time.

Would be nice if we got something like the Dolphins. Nearly/Make the playoffs, get another pick that's top 5. Could possibly find a way to get Thibodeaux if that happened. I'd be willing to give up both of our firsts to trade up and get him. Think he's gonna be an absolute game changer on defense.

I'm gonna miss seeing Julio in the Acuna jersey or seeing him cheering on the Hawks courtside. Here's to hoping he does what Rocky did and still supports the teams even after leaving.

Well if Ryan has a good season this year w/o julio, there will be a new narrative: "Its because he has calvin ridley & Kyle Pitts!!!!"

unrelated note:

julio wants to win and he is a big reason why the falcons cant pay any good players..

The Titans are one of the most likely landing spots for Julio. The Falcons are probably going to want a major impact player that can start right away.

I expect it to be a defensive player but another strong possibility is a top running back. Derek Henry is a beast at running back just like Julio is a beast at WR. Running backs are usually cheap and have a short shelf life. Derek Henry probably has another 3 years left before he's got a ton of miles on him. Also Derek Henry only played elite with Arthur Smith.

If the Titans believe that there back up running back is solid I guess it could be possible. The Falcons should try to get Henry regardless.

Didn't someone quote Chris Sims as supposedly having inside information that Julio thinks Matt has lost the deep ball or some stupid ****?

Matty Ice has never really had that great of a deep ball IMO.  That’s never really been his thing.  He can carve up defenses and be deadly accurate though with the intermediate passes if given just a little time in the pocket.

His deep ball accuracy has always been really good though.  He might not have end zone to end zone arm strength, but he's got plenty enough to hit deep balls with precision.

I was slightly wrong - SuperBowl year was 1998....Falcons came off that year in 1999 with 5-11 record - Falcons were in the 1999 draft and gave away their future Year 2000 1st rd pick to draft Reggie Kelly in mid 2nd round - Falcons followed up the 5-11 season with a 4-12 season and ended up #5 overall but pick conveyed to Baltimore Ravens - SMDH

For all the love old Falcons fans give Dan Reeves for being Falcons HC - he was a straight AWFUL GM.   He traded for Vick and drafted Patrick Kerney - and not much else - his drafts were putrid and he had personnel power and a figurehead GM but Reeves had final say and ran the strategy.

Yeah, I guess.  I know I’m comparing him to some of the best in the league here, but his deep passes pale in comparison to qb’s like Rodgers and Mahomes as far as zip and accuracy.  It’s just different.  I guess it’s adequate; it’s just never really been his strength.  The past year or two it seems like his accuracy has been a little off with those types of passes but it doesn’t worry me because, like I said, that’s never really been what his game has been about.  Seems like wr’s are always having to wait for the passes or go back for them.  It’s been a while since I remember him hitting someone perfectly in stride on a bomb.

A 1st would be a massive win for us. Let the bidding war ensue.

I would still be talking to the NFL about getting compensated for their partners f*ck up on undisputed.

Agree. If the league thinks piping in a little extra crowd noise is worth a $350k fine, what should the fine be for significantly damaging any chance of receiving the best offer possible for one of the top five WR's in the NFL? Maybe $5m? Seems reasonable to me. That would go a long way in paying the draft class. Sic the lawyers on their azses.

this happened in reverse to Falcons in reverse in 1999.   Dan Reeves inexplicably gave up a future 1st rounder to draft the Mississippi State Tight End - Reggie Kelly (I believe that was his name).    Falcons were coming off a SB year so Reeves thought it would be low 1st rounder -  Jamal Anderson got hurt, the season imploded and Ravens ended up getting our pick that was #5 overall.   They drafted Atlanta-area HS RB and Tennessee Volunteer phenom Jamal Lewis - who had a terrific career and was a 2,000yd back and SB winner.

that trade still makes me sick.

Yeah, it sucks that you even brought that up.

That was an extremely terrible and cursed season.

Besides that, deep accuracy in terms of hitting someone in stride has more to do with the offensive scheme and route design than people tend to consider.  In 2016, Ryan dropped an absolute dime on Taylor Gabriel versus the Packers.  That's because Shanahan drew the play up to be successful and coached the players to execute it well.

Dirk Koetter is a liability there.  He's reputed as a "vertical" offensive specialist, but he's proven to be poor at getting a high completion percentage at any level.  If you don't believe that, look at Ryan's completion percentage from 2012 to 2014 (under Koetter), then 2015 to 2018 (under Shanahan and Sarkisian), and then 2019 and 2020 (also under Koetter).

https://www.nfl.com/players/matt-ryan/stats/career

You'll note an upward progression through his career, and you'll note he had a good year under Koetter (2012), and a bad year (1st year with Sarkisian).  But overall, he hangs around that 68-69% mark running a WCO with a competent coordinator, and around 65-66% under Koetter.  That's not a coincidence.

Are you implying that at some point Chris Simms said something that wasn't stupid ****?

Ryan still has some good quality years left.  Julio probably does too, but Julio misses a lot of games and practices.  Not sure I've ever heard about M Ryan doing anything close to that.  Also M Ryan is better than a lot of other qbs who are being paid more than him.  Wondering if M Ryan should threaten to sit out OTAs and training camp if he doesn't get a new better deal?

He probably realizes this would be the absolute worst time ever to do that, plus he's surely aware you can't get blood out of a turnip, or extra Benjamins from a team in cap helI.

Even if we got 2 firsts, 9 times out of 10 the drafted players will never be as good as Julio was. Tough pill to swallow if he's dealt.

You are welcome.

Remember it all too well and that was a season after we had drafted TE OJ Santiago.  Reeves, need I say no more.

Just Ice preparedness, consistency, and mostly injury free (missed two games in 13 seasons) is worth his price.

Ice has been paid and it was never dirty laundry. The team has served him well as he has served the team well.

Can’t afford him without the new regime either 1) Convincing Grady to extend and/or 2) The regime even wants to extend Grady.
Personally, i think Grady is out the door after this year. He’s not worth the giant cap hit he’ll be.

Dead cap is just the price you pay when you do these type of deals. good news is the dead cap is spread over two years, the cap it’self goes up next year and there is no other dead cap other than JJ’s (barring something unforeseen) to deal with next year

I think if anyone deserves the money, its Grady. He is the 2nd best DT in the league and is probably one of our only stars on D. You cant ship him off then complain about having a bad defense. Invest more in it, not less.

He accomplished making an entire fan base turn on him within a matter of 48 hours.

It's like buying your wife the house she wanted, the car she wanted, then another car because she wants a faster one, then another house cause she wants a bigger one, then 2 years later says she wants a divorce and the relationship has been awful since you bought her that bigger house because it wasn't big enough, then tells all her friends what a bad husband you were.
