Here's this week's Farm Report and podcast

From the podcast:

"The way he dominated... it looks like he belongs."

"100 miles per hour plays anywhere."

"I think there's at least a 50% chance of him making a spot for himself in the Atlanta postseason bullpen."

Guess who we're talking about (it's not Josh Tomlin).

Dan Meyer has been named AA South League Manager of the Year.

Meyer was the pitching coach to start the season, but also took over as manager in early on June 9 after the team started the season 12-15. The Braves went 51-29 the rest of the way to, garnering the both the best record in the league this season and the best winning percentage in franchise history. The Braves went on to defeat Montgomery 3 games to 2 in the championship round.

This is Meyer's 7th season as a coach in the Braves system after previously being pitching coach for Danville (2014), Rome (2016-2018), and Florida (2019-20) and as the organization's Minor League Pitching Rehab Coordinator in 2015. It is Meyer's first season as a manager. Meyer was a 1st-round draft pick by the Braves in 2000 and made his major league debut for the team in 2004. He was later traded to the Oakland A's in the Tim Hudson deal.

Hold that thought. Not sure if it's ALL minor leaguers yet.

I mean....if it is a top picked guy with a 5 million dollar bonus then yeah...I can see not paying for their housing..

The guys who went drafted and making like 200 a week? Yeah pay for their housing

Even the top guys with big signing bonuses, I don't want having to worry about finding an apartment in the middle of July in Pearl, Mississippi after being promoted.

You almost wonder if the best move would be to build dorms at the stadiums. If the teams are providing housing some type of apartment or dorm set up could make sense

I think at least at the complex level this will be what happens.

That’s pretty dreadful. Are there limitations on who can and can’t go or is this league open for all prospects?

Honestly, I don't know anymore. It used to only be open for prospects that finished the season in AA or higher that had not made their major league debut, with the exception of one prospect per team that could be from high-A. Pretty sure they've opened that up some, but the Braves roster does match that criteria -- all of the players finished at AA except Franklin, who finished at high-A.

Just thinking about stuff.

This championship really showcased the value of a quality farm system. In the most recent window of contention for the club (2010-2014), the team also had plenty of home-grown players (Prado, Heyward, Freeman, Teheran, Hanson, Medlin, Kimbrel, Venters) that could have anchored a championship team. The difference was that after those guys got to the majors, the system was tapped out. When the inevitable injuries or surprise poor season crept in, the team had nothing to offer to get help. Not even guys like Kasey Kalich or Bruce Zimmermann or Tristen Beck -- mid-level minor league talent that ended up getting key postseason contributors.

Obviously the folks that acquired the talent deserve a lot of praise, as do the player development folks that nurtured them into the championship team they are now. But a big thanks goes to Alex Anthopoulos, who could have come in and made a bunch of flashy "win-now" trades to show that there was a new boss in town. Instead he waited for this talent to come together, and then when he did make trades he made measured, sane trades that actually made a difference.

**** this feels good.
