Cusick made the start for Augusta on Thursday.

He touched 100 mph in the first. Was sitting 94-97 with rising action. Threw almost all fastballs, just a few sliders mixed in... which was news in-and-of itself considering he didn't throw the slider in college, so its something the Braves have had him start.

More than enough stuff to crush the poor Kannapolis Cannonballers, possibly the worst team in low-A this season. Guessing he gets a couple more starts then gets the bump to Rome for a few weeks before the season ends. He threw 48 pitches, which was more than I was expecting.

Thanks for the report

@K26dp if you had to put a minors all star team together what would it look like.

To actually win a game? Pretty much the Gwinnett Stripers.

If you mean like a best prospects team, I'd go:

1B Mahki Backstrom
2B Cal Conley
3B Vaughn Grissom
SS Braden Shewmake
LF Drew Waters
CF Cristian Pache
RF Mike Harris
C Shea Langeliers

C2 Logan Brown
OF Jesse Franklin
OF Trey Harris
IF Ambioris Tavarez
IF Justyn-Henry Malloy

SP Kyle Muller
SP Spencer Strider
SP Tucker Davidson
SP Ryan Cusick
SP Bryce Elder

RP Jared Shuster
RP Freddy Tarnok
RP Victor Vodnik
RP Jasseel De La Cruz
RP Joey Estes
RP Indigo Diaz
RP Spencer Schwellenbach
RP Brooks Wilson

William Conteras not as the #2 catcher? 😮

After Mississippi played Tuesday, the rest of the five games against Pensacola this week have been postponed to adhere to the minor league COVID testing and contact tracing protocol.

No word on how many positive tests there have been on the M-Braves.

Just for you guys, here's my opinion on the best pitches among Braves minor league prospects right now.

Best 4-seam fastball: Spencer Strider
Best 2-seam fastball: Kyle Muller
Best curveball: Darius Vines
Best slider: Kyle Muller
Best change-up: Jared Shuster
Best command: Bryce Elder

I'm surprised the aren't moving Langeliers up to get a taste of AAA before the season closes.

Only reason to do this would be if he'd be in the mix for the Atlanta job in 2022, and he won't be. Besides, Contreras is in Gwinnett and needs reps too. Plus Mississippi will go to the playoffs, that's better experience for Langeliers anyway.

The Braves have signed Maikel Franco to a minor league deal. The contract was reportedly signed prior to September 1 so he would be eligible for postseason consideration.

Franco will likely be a candidate for a right-handed pinch hitter role on a postseason roster, when teams can carry an extra bat or two.
