Dante Fowler Accepts Paycut

Recommended Posts

I am not one to dunk on Dante but I am glad he took a hit as what he put on film with us last season (hurt or not) was actually worse than the dude we moved on from after 3 years of meh and the the one who stayed hurt and didn't seem to want to be here.  I still think Dante has juice and hopefully a healthy body and a regime that I think will play to his strengths will result in us having a really nice core of LBs (he ain't a DE in spite of his size).  A 3-4 with Fowler and Walker on the edges, Debo in cover and Foye able to both cover and get through trash, I like the potential.

And yes I low-key said Foye is a more complete LB than Debo (love him but he has limitations).

What exactly was a debacle yesterday?

With out yesterday's 'debacle', we would be sitting at $9M over the cap

I think Ryan is the best QB in Falcons history period.  Saying that I wouldn't of restructured him.  I don't think with or without Ryan we are a contender.  As far as the cap, I would of traded Jarrett to make the cap room.  Yes I still support Ryan.

You can make an argument that we could have restructured some other guys.   You can make an argument that MR2 is not exciting and that there are better QBs out there.  I became a Falcon fan when Vick came in and I really want a mobile QB.  That all said, this team can win with MR2.  I don't love the restructure but it was an easy choice and MR2 will retire an Atlanta Falcon.   I'm ok with it unless Matt falls off a cliff.

Good move for both parties. Fowler has already made a lot of money in his career. If he got cut, he would be looking at vet minimum type money. He's on a team that has a huge need at the position he plays. He's not going to find many other teams that can give him that amount of playing time.

Trade the best dl on the whole team in a defense weak draft year. You are really going out of your way to look clueless. Yesterday was not a debaucle. It was an extremely smart move to give the team more options. Ryan was not going anywhere for the next 2 yrs. What changed about that yesterday? Next year they will renegotiate with him again with a more scrupulous eye for the future, and with a higher cap ( probably 210-215mil). I really don't get you guys who want to b**** and complain about every move. GET RID OF GRADY....SHEEEESH!

Looks like your the one that's b***** and complaining because someone has a different opinion of how to build the team into a Super Bowl contender.  How many WAR would you say Grady ( we will get high draft picks for him) nets you compared to a McNeil or Barnwell?  Now justifying the 21 mil in 2021 and 24 mil in 2022 for a 4 sack DT is another thing.  I'm trying to look past the tip of my nose to see what the team can be in 2022 and beyond.

1. You don't pay a dt for his sack production.

2. He's the 2nd best dt in the league.

3. You build a sb team by adding talent around that elite core player.

4. I only b**** and complain when people find something wrong with every d***** move the team makes.

5. In your opinions ( looking past the end of your nose), it's going to make the team which suffered 8 4th quarter losses last year better in '22 by gutting the team of its core and getting rookies at every position?

The pessimism gets tiring. I'm not willing to give up this year or the next or the next. We have what I believe is a good front office and coaching staff who I believe know better than you or I how to build a team for now, '22, and beyond. Now as far as your opinions, they're just like mine (Another body part).

Pay cut?  Or is it a restructure?  I cannot imagine anyone actually accepting less.  I have to admit I am pig ignorant to the ways of NFL contracts.

I dunno either.

I'd guess it's because his market value sunk after last year. He knew if he got cut, he may not even make as much as what he's now agreed to take.

Reducing Grady to a "4 sack" DT is just so purposefully narrow-minded and just ignorant. Kinda makes everything else you say not worth listening to. I just cannot even fathom what you have to criticize Grady about. Often times he was the only player on the D line that looked like he gave a **** last year. Do you even watch the games? It takes like one defensive drive watching Grady to know that we would be so screwed without him.

Of all the really stupid off-season takes I've seen so far this year, this one is by far the dumbest.

We could not trade or cut him, and we would be over the cap without restructuring him. So what exactly would you have proposed we do?

Do you really have the need to throw insults?  First thing Grady is a very good player.  When Fowler lined up on the same line as Donald, he produced. Floyd took Fowlers spot for Rams in 2020 and he produced.  Fowler not so much last year but we know he was injured so hopefully he bounces back.

Do you understand that money is spongeable (money not spent somewhere can be spent somewhere else).  Say you trade Jarrett for a Late 1 rounder plus extra picks.  With that pick say you draft Daviyon Nixon to take Gradys spot for the next five years.  So you downgraded the DT position.  You now have an extra $20 mil/yr to improve the rest of your team.  Twenty million buys some decent safety play for sure doesn't it?  So if I had my choice I would take Daviyon Nixon and two good safeties.
