New England and Chicago called the Falcons about the availability of Ryan

Amazing he is good enough for other teams but not good enough for Falcon fans.  After years of playing with few injuries considering the Olines letting him be sacked fans give him little respect.

🤨

Yes, but you have to look at a lot of teams over many years to appreciate how fickle fans are.  I worked in Ft. Worth, TX when Roger Staubach was Dallas's QB.  Fans were calling for Danny White to start.  Now, that is something to ponder.

I guess we are even more fickle since there is no Danny White here to come off the bench.

If there is a guy on the sideline carrying a clipboard Microsoft Surface Laptop, he is a better QB than your starting QB.  🙃

The only response from the Falcons...

Imagine all the MR haters watching him go to NE and win a chip!

Kenny the Sports Guy?  lmao Not saying it didn't happen Geneaut but lol (also love the new avi...no mercy!)

They're are hoping the Falcons are gonna Falcon.  They hope that we will do something stupid and continue being a dysfunctional franchise. That would be such a Falcon thing to do, let him go win a ring for NE(or even worse NO) , and we draft fields. Then spend the next few years watching him bust until someone turns his lights out. But hey, people will be happy as long as he runs some every game. Who needs a win. We will continue having high picks, so we can keep drafting replacements, to keep the slow entertained.

There are times I wish we could trade MR2.  Not that I want to see him leave, but to give him a shot with a team so he could win that Lombardi and head into Canton.  For me, I feel as if we wasted at least 40% of his career, or even higher.

Seeing him doing it with NE. NO or Carolina would chill my soul though.  That would be a big *** slap from Karma.

Same here..

Honestly It would hurt, but I wouldn't be mad if he won a Ring somewhere else. I just hope it's not for NO. But if it was, some of our fan base deserves every ounce of embarrassment that would come with it, but some of us don't. I wouldn't be mad at him though.

I understand everybody wanting Matt to be here. It's just hard to understand how we can afford to put such a big percentage of the cap on one player and still be able to put a good team around him.

You are correct that as tempting as getting your future QB issue taken care of in the first months of your tenure would be for A.S. and T.F., there are too many holes for them not to trade back for the max haul. I just hope it doesn't end up with one of these QB's playing in Carolina.

Other teams have managed to do it just fine but because the Falcons have been absolutely terrible at building a team around Matt Ryan it's all his fault because his cap hit is too big. Teams like the Packers and Saints clearly don't exist as examples of how to build a great team and still pay your QB.

Who said it was Matt Ryan's fault? It doesn't even matter who is at fault. The reality is Matt's got the second-highest cap hit in the entire NFL. The Saints nor Packers, nor any other NFL team has put themselves in a greater cap hole at QB than the Falcons are in right now.

Matt Ryan's cap hit isn't the reason the Falcons suck. Never has been. You said you couldn't figure out a way for a team to build a great team and still pay their QB and I pointed out two examples. Using 2020's cap numbers, check it out.

  1. Dak Prescott - $31.4M = Cowboys 6-10 (Dak got hurt so this one isn't a true account of how good or bad the Cowboys were in 2020).
  2. Russell Wilson - $31.0M = Seahawks 12-4
  3. Jared Goff - $28.8M = Rams 10-6
  4. Tom Brady - $28.3M = Buccaneers 11-5
  5. Jimmy Garoppolo - $26.1M = 49ers 6-10 (Same situation as the Cowboys)
  6. Philip Rivers - $25.0M = Colts 11-5
  7. Ben Roethlisberger - $23.7M = Steelers 12-4
  8. Drew Brees - $23.6M = Saints 12-4
  9. Ryan Tannehill - $22.5M = Titans 11-5
  10. Aaron Rodgers - $21.6M = Packers 13-3

Matt Ryan's 2020 cap hit among QBs ranked 16th in the NFL at $18.9M. Ryan's cap hit wasn't the reason the Falcons sucked in 2020. The Falcons sucked in 2020 because they suck at building a team. As the top 10 QB cap hits prove you can pay your QB and still build a great team around him. You just need to know what you're doing to get it done.

Yep. Ryan’s cap hit from 2018-2020 was in the bottom half of the League for QB. Yet the team wasted resources on other positions like  DL which was in top 5 in 2019 but worst in sacks snd pressures. If anything the QB cap shows little correlation to winning or losing.

That was then, bro. This is 2021 and his cap hit is now more than double the figure you're referencing. So, going forward, his cap hit is now a huge dent in our cap space and a huge detriment to getting an elite team around him.

As for the team sucking because of piss poor team building regardless of what Ryan's salary was in the past few years, I agree.

But the 2021 season hasn't gotten here. We've not had draft or free agency so it's impossible right now to say that Ryan's cap number is keeping the Falcons from building a great team around him for the 2021 season. I don't care that his "cap number" is 2nd highest among QBs at the moment. At the moment the 2021 league year hasn't even started yet much less actually playing games on the field.
