He is, but he’s got the best instincts of any safety in what is a pretty good safety class. If he was a couple of inches taller, dude would be the top safety taken.

Lamarcus Joyner is 5'8, Mathieu is 5'9

i get it. i just feel like i'd rather have a guy with the same level of athleticism and ball skills but 4+ inches taller.

i'm not saying i don't like the guy, he's a baller and i'd be happy to get him too.

Love his play!

It really seems like a cop out to call him a poor man's Polamalu given they both:

  • Are of Polynesian heritage
  • Went to high school in Oregon; played both offense and defense
  • Played safety in college
  • Went to USC
  • Displayed great playmaking ability
  • Showed they could cover, hit, and had the range to play all over the field

But if the shoe fits...

He's one I haven't checked out yet, but plan to soon.

“Jevon Holland aligned at safety for the Ducks defense. He shows excellent versatility and football intelligence to align in multiple places in the secondary. He demonstrates good leadership and communication on the back end and easily adjusts with motion. He is an excellent athlete with loose hips, agility, and body control while in coverage. When aligned in the slot, he demonstrates the coverage upside to allow the coordinator the flexibility to make different calls. As a result, he demonstrates the skill set that will allow the defense to stay in base against 11-personnel. He has tremendous versatility and the ball skills to make him an elite prospect at the position”

@Knight of God who do you like as a safety prospect?

Washington, Ford, Holland, Hufanga, Hamsa, Grant, Cisco, and Sterns are pretty much good for this system. I'm not very high on any, but I would much rather look at FA and possibly go with a top CB in this draft. Surtain or Samuel.

Since this years CB draft is more top heavy than deep, there will likely be an early run on CBs and the top four guys could likely be gone before our second.

Agreed and FA safety is definitely going to be important.  Holland and Ford are my favorites and I like Washington’s game but I think I saw him listed at 5’8”.
