But but but he has Julio Jones!

People are so dumb.  Give Matt an even average defense and oline and he would go off.  I'm sure the lack of sacks are Matt's fault tho to his haters.

Another fun stat:

Ryan has had plenty of resources pumped into his OL’s since 2015.  The OL is not the problem.

The issue boils down to one thing: piss-poor OC’s for 5 of the last 8 seasons.

Once again, you are wrong.  In his MVP season he was sacked the 2nd most out of any QB.  Just because he has resources pumped in, doesn't mean the resources were good and just like when he had a good OC, it doesn't correlate to lack of sacks.  There has always been holes in his lines and he has been one of the most sacked qb's in the league because of it.

I won't argue about poor coaching, but that's not only it.  Pass pro has been a problem most of Ryan's career, as has the run game, as has the defense.

Agreed. People point to ask the 1st round picks on the o line, but that doesn't mean they're all good. Carpenter is a warm body, Mack is aging, mcgary and Lindstrom are figuring things out.

He's going to need better than an average OL. Even in his prime, Ryan was not going to avoid a lot of sacks. Anyone who thinks a 37yo Ryan is going to be more nimble than he was at 32yo is sniffing glue. His need for a quality OL, like any aging QB, is only going to increase.

Thus the crux of the NFL balancing act- how to invest resources in a D and an OL and skill players and a QB that isn't on a rookie contract....Hopefully Fontenot brought that salary cap voodoo with him.

That is the dream, a better than average line.  That would be an improvement for a lot of his lines over the years sadly.

The thing is.

The offensive line play has sucked for just about everyone in the nfl for the last several years.

It is not an issue with just the Falcons.

For bad teams, I'd agree.  But this is one of those things that separates good from the bad.  The Bucs were pretty average until their bye and they started protecting Brady.  Most all of the "good" aka playoff teams had good line play.  KC had good line play until they all died and we see how that impacted them in the SB.

So while it's not only a Falcon issue, if we are to contend it needs to be addressed.
