Wouldn't be Surprised if Mac Jones Rises Up Draft Boards

Those QB's were both in consideration for the best QB in the class. That's not happening for the 5'th QB down the list.

The question is....who do teams actually consider the best?

You may think Jones is 5th.....but I am willing to bet that some teams will have him higher than that.

The bears gave up a nice hail to trade up one spot for Trubisky with Watson and Mahomes there.

I don't think that teams are as high on this draft class as the media. That is why you're seeing all of these crazy qb trades for veterans

I think Mac Jones is one of those players that NFL teams have a much different take on than the draftnics and fans. I would not be shocked if he goes top 10 and ahead of Lance and Fields.. and I reall

I'd have paid Tyson vs. Holyfield money to see June Jones stomp his *** right there on the sidelines.

But the point is those QB's were both there. 5 QB's in the top 10 won't happen.

Heard that Matt Rhule coached him at the senior bowl and they have a good chance of drafting him rather than wanting to trade up for a QB

Yeah, Matt Rhule is like 1 of this QB Whispers. I can really see that happening.  Carolina has talent on the offense side if the ball. Teddy just scared to push the ball down the field

Jones will go top half of first rd and at least five QBs in the first half of rd one as well. This could be a great QB class

People said the same thing about the 2018 draft class too.  Many had Darnold as the best and Allen as the worst of the big four, Allen has been really good, Mayfield solid at times, Rosen and Darnold have been pretty bad.  Some sites also had a Rudolph as a top 15-20 pick and he’s been horrendous. Hard to say how this class will pan out but I’m not buying the hype yet.  Not saying they won’t be drafted high, but people forget how much praise that 2018 class got.

I think it's based on "who is more prepared now?"  I think a team would rather take the most pro ready player possible, however they assess that.  Not many teams feel they have the luxury of allowing someone to sit for multiple years.  They can play, or they can't.

Will never be shocked by a QB going high.

I expect 4 QBs to be gone by the 12th pick. Never, ever forget that Christian Ponder went #12 overall.

Some other 'highlights' from past drafts.

EJ manuel - 16

Jake Locker - 8

Trubisky - 2

Wilson, Lawrence, Lance, Fields, Jones. All top 20 for sure, imo.

Nothing I've seen from Mac Jones belies that skill level at the pro level.  Solid like a Fitzpatrick, yes...but not the QB to take in the top ten and tie to your franchise for the next 5-10 years.

Dude just put up a more efficient season than Joe Burrow.

Who, if no one remembers, was a one year wonder with a plethora of NFL caliber weapons around him (Jefferson and Chase anyone?) not to mention a first round RB in Edwards-Helaire.  Where was all the outrage about him not being a top level pick or 5th in his class?  I don't remember anyone questioning Joe Burrows athletic ability and he didn't exactly jump off the page in that category.

Does he remind you of anyone in this draft class?

Joe actually balled out the last 5 games in 2018. So he was technically a 1 and a half year wonder.

Guess I'm not seeing what some are seeing in mac jones because, I wouldn't call him a 1st rounder at all IMO. There were a lot of short area throws and good talent around him (A good Thing). I will however say that he was very decisive on where to go with the ball. He may be good but not 1st round talent good along with other projected 1st round QBs but teams are sometimes desperate and will over draft QBs.
