Well, This Shakes Up the NFL and the Draft

So you realize that's still double the length like I was saying right?

Keep thinking Atlanta can get that for Matt and his contract. It's not hard to understand the trade if you take those blinders off.

Everyone thinks the Rams got fleeced out of being desperate, all over people are saying that around the league.  You’re the only person I’ve heard say they did that to dump Goff.  In the trade Stafford is reworking his deal as well, which Ryan could also do.

I also never said Ryan would get that, I said if you think he’d only get a third you’re an idiot.  Two firsts weren’t just to dump Goff’s contract, which isn’t that bad.  He’s only a 25mil cap hit, even though he sucks.  You can cut Goff after next season with a 15mil dead cap or after 2022 with zero.  You don’t give up the next two first rounders when you can cut him with no penalty in two years.  You do that to get Stafford.  There were 5-6 teams bidding on him, sorry if you don’t think the same would happen if Ryan was on the trade block.

By the same Logic Ryan’s cap hit for trading is 40M. Can we expect 3-4 first rounds if Goffs 25 M was worth those picks.

We would probably have to trade that much to another team to take Ryan's contract and give us a starting quarterback.

Exactly. I like Stafford though so I hope they are good enough to at least make the playoffs and win a game.

he is due for getting that chip off his shoulder. He is going to a better team. Maybe he finds better team success and gets more done on the field.

Those things probably happen. The extent the Rams regress on defense or not is a big factor to if they can pull off this “all in” on Matthew or not. They certainly no longer have enough draft capital to burn through revamping the roster but it could work.

The Lions made a great move as well given the degree their franchise is set back. The plan is moving on from Stafford; whom they never found team success with in the postseason and want to build a better team.

We have the #4 overall pick. It’s because the Rams preferred Stafford over a risk in the draft that they overpaid 2 future 1st rounders and got an older QB...because it’s less risky than a rookie not named Trevor Lawrence...whom could also bust...and they would rather trade the capital they did for an known “average” career QB. Think about that.

Do the Falcons risk their future by taking a QB at #4, when they have a QB better than Stafford? Are they incapable of building a better roster instead of chasing a QB and having improved coaching?

Matt would only cost the trading team 23 mil....not the 40 he's costing us...

That makes him tradable. We'd still be the team paying first round picks if we were the ones trading for Stafford right now.

But I mean got dayum. 2 firsts just to dump a contract.

Ya but it’s also they would rather pay that than not move up for a QB this draft...you know all these can’t miss prospects? :ninja:

And they could have moved Goff in a couple years...but it’s more palatable to cut bait now if they belief Goff has reached his ceiling. It’s definitely an all in move. They almost got it done in 2018 doing that. It could work but requires projecting Stafford as going off and their defense staying near current form.

what choice did they have though, to your point, after committing the Goff?

Detroit probably thinks they can do well with Goff and have more time, but if he flakes in 2 years when he can be cut? They at least have 2 firsts to hunt for a QB or best case they invest in the team and have Goff producing...like McVay did at times. He is still young.

They aren't going to get any further with Stafford than they did with Goff so it won't pay off in the end. Oh well. Better then than the Falcons

It’s the position they painted themselves into. They are trying to recapture the SB they lost due to having a poor QB who was completely tethered to his OC.

What team would trade for Matt Ryan right now?

Any team a QB away.

Doubt they have the capital to outdo the Rams payment, because that’s probably the starting line of conversation for us to be locked into drafting an unknown when it’s proven you can win with Matt Ryan instead of eating dead cap with a rookie contract in tow...effectively canceling out the purpose wrt the cap gains. Go off in 3 years with the next HOF draft pick...or be fortunate to get the next Goff or worse.

Any of the half dozen teams willing to throw 1sts at stafford. It's almost like some of you don't realize just how unoften a franchise qb becomes available during the off-season. The colts would kill to have ryan right now. You don't like Ryan, cool. You're still wrong.

Im expecting the Lions to call us up and offer some of those picks to us,  allowing them to take the 3rd best QB and us to help build up our defense.

Gotta see how our smoke screens work, and how much is leaked from Carolina. Could very well stay at their spot and get the 3rd picked QB.
