The dude's Admin is going to give fewer people less money than Donald Trump! I’ve engaged and acknowledged legitimate criticisms, not just of Biden but Dems generally. See my comments about Cuomo, for example, or my statements about Biden/Dems use of “immediately” regarding checks. I even acknowledged that criticism about the $1400 vs. $2000 was legitimate even if I don’t think it’s that big a deal. So why aren’t you being more critical of those “far left” voices and people pushing ridiculous criticisms such as attacking Biden for not doing things he never promised to do (e.g., $50k student loan forgiveness)? Serge
In retrospect, $2,000 was a good amount for Trump to suggest he could get people. It cost him nothing to demand Congress give people $2,000, and now it's forced the Democrats to live up to a certain check size for everyone when they'll naturally want to target aid in a country full of poverty, while trimming the overall size of the package enough to satisfy even the most conservative Democrats in the Senate. The way it's going now, by the time they actually pass the thing, Biden will have lost more Democratic voters in 2022 and thus 2024 than he regains when people get checks. I only point it out because no one else would have otherwise, creating that specific expectation was a good way to wing Biden right out of the gate. First, it’s ludicrous to attack a politician for not doing something he never promised to do. Would it be legitimate for me to attack Bernie for not introducing legislation to give free tires for every car? And every single day post something like, “Day 44 and Bernie still hasn’t given us free tires...I’m NEVER VOTING PROGRESSIVE AGAIN!!!”. When has anybody ever held politicians to that standard? Second, for all of the hot takes about 2022 and threats about Dems losing the election, what gets lost in the discussion is this... https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/republicans-2020-gains-in-the-house-set-them-up-well-for-2022/ https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-fallout-from-texass-winter-storm-wont-hurt-republicans-at-the-ballot-box-in-2022/ There’s probably nothing that Dems can do to prevent losing the majority. So all of this “if Dems don’t do X, they’re going to lose 2022 and deserve it” misses the much bigger, structural factors that drive elections. I don't know how you can see what's going on in this country and think you can get by politically on the same Obama era BS that got us Trump to begin with. If I were Biden I'd look at all this **** and throw a political hail mary that'll at least get me some love from my base. But these guys are hellbent on pissing everyone off for the sake of moderation. I stopped reading after the first two bad faith points. 1) Biden did not "waiver" on student loan forgiveness. If you have evidence that he has waivered from the loan forgiveness policy that HE ran on, I will apologize. 2) Come close, I want to whisper something in your ear . . . . . THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A "CHILD SEPARATION POLICY" UNDER THE OBAMA OR BIDEN ADMINISTRATION! There WAS a "cage" policy. It applied only to children traveling withOUT their families. They had ALREADY been separated. We can have aa honest discussion about the evils of that policy. But any separation that occurred was not a "policy". Children were separated from their family but ONLY when there was an immediate threat TO the children FROM their families, just like any other American child. The Trump administration made family separation a policy. And Biden ain't doing that. Leon Troutsky
